What Is New On The Grading Front?

Hi All--

Long story short, until just a few days ago, I had not bought a single sportscard in over a year. I am now going on at least over a year to a year and a half since I submitted anything for grading (fortunately I see PSA is doing just fine without my submissions, LOL). It has also been close to two years since I even visted the boards (have been a member since 2001). In any event, and I know this is overly broad, but what would you say have been the major changes/events on the grading front over the last year or two? No, I am not trolling for "scandals" (you can find about and read those pretty easily). Rather, I would appreciate any insight or comments on trends along the lines of "basketball has really slid," "there has been an explosion of grading in 1969 Topps baseball," etc. I enjoy reading about such things and would appreciate any random tidbits you may want to offer.

As for me, I am probably a "splurge" submitter of cards (i.e., I do not consistently submit "X" number of cards like clockwork) with some submitted purely in hopes of securing a high grade for resale while others are graded for my own personal collection. On the keep side as an example, I have two "active" sets I am working on-- 1978 Donruss KISS and 1933 Goudey (I put "active" in quotes since I have not updated either set in well over a year and a half). I also have a start on a 1978 Topps baseball set (my all time favorite set) but I have, for all intents and purposes, given up on that set since it is so large and the cost/benefits of grading do not make much financial sense on a such a large scale (the same could be said of my 1978 Donruss KISS set but it given its relatively small size of 132, I have chosen to forgive the cost/benefit issue to a large degree).

In the meantime, I will enjoy catching up on the threads and will look forward to any comments anyone wishes to post here.

Have fun!

Matt
