which auction house would be best for selling the Jerusalem Collection of Palestine Mandate coinage (along with approximately 100 other high grade and tied for finest graded, etc... coins)? ALL OPINIONS ARE WELCOME BUT, please try to give something more than just the co.'s name (the why, first hand experience). Thanks in advance! image

    Hey Gary

    Being your collection is a rather nice one - I would suggest Heritage's CICF sale - Live Internet or Sig ..makes no diff here - they are both hugely successful and covered better than others.,,,you just can't beat HA for presentation and platform.

    For Mandate coins you'll def get the most with them.

    I like StacksBowers too but not for this Mandate stuff...

    I would skip anyone else for Palestine coins - for the record they sold the Lake Pearl Collection in 2006, not that I was thrilled with the grading but at that time most of the pieces were sold RAW (they eventually graded way lower that "cataloged"...) I know because I cherry picked a few superb examples for my collection.

    You can PM I'll elaborate.

    I would def use a go between - someone like Andy Lustig would help - I'm sure you have a connection or two to contact. Others on the board can recommend good go-betweens too I'm sure.

    I also think Heritage would do a good job on marketing and selling the coins.

    I would not hesitate to recommend Heritage as your best bet. They cataloged in excess of 100 British lots for the 2010 Boston ANA, and the PRs in about 12 cases were the highest ever paid for that particular type or date (i.e. excellent marketing and exposure). I was also kept in the loop the entire way.

    One other extremely important point is the manner which they handled one coin which was never "checked in" (lost?). I suspect the sharp edges of the saflip stuck to the bubble-wrap (it was one of about 7-8 not slabbed) and was tossed with the trash. Sad to think it might be in a Dallas landfill but HA didn't flinch or refuse to pay the valuation which I placed on the coin (4-figures) ..... that reminds me I need to dig out the images and post here in the event it ever shows up. Given HA paid, they have title to the coin should it ever turn up.

    For the record, it's the 1895 Halfpenny Specimen strike from the Freeman Collection, Christies, Oct 1984(85?). I'll pop it up in a day or so.....cheers, and good luck Gary wherever you decide to sell, and even better blessings in being cured from your health issues. Mac
