NGC MS63 France Charles VI ECU D'Or (1380-1422) $2500



1350-1364 Henry VI Lamb of God. $3300 Superlative strike; sharp and complete, and SCARCE as such.

Reverse double-struck, tiny scratch on right of lamb, a couple of tiny dents in rim - suggestive of former fit in a 4-pronged bezel.

The double strike is probably why the obverse was struck up so perfectly, as the flan remained in the obverse die for two strikes. Distinguishable from the cheaper Jean & Wenceslaus Brabant issue by the use of 'REX' instead of 'DVX' on obverse. EX. CIVITAS

I'd rather have my son go to a numismatist than to Uncle Sam and the US Army, maybe. He's made some talk of joining the military but hasn't, yet. I guess it could be character building for him but I'd worry about him. (He turns 21 in April.)

I used to have a Francis I ecu d'or from the early-mid 1500s in AU, but swapped it for an underwater metal detector. (Later got my money's worth outta that detector, but I miss that coin.)
