Yes, picked up a 1970 OPC Twins team card from burbanksportscards there are just none of these around, surprising for a relatively new issue. Auction didn't have a photo but card looks nice if a bit off-center. I have not sent it in for grading, but at about $5.00 it's worth a shot.

  • Yep. In a couple of cases, I've not been able to find a card, so I just took a shot. Oddly, it worked out ok.

Yeah....Burbank Sportscards for me here too. I spent a little more...$15. First time I have ever done this, and I hope it has a good ending. If not, ....its $15, not too bad of a loss.

I bought one from Burbank Sports cards on Saturday and drove down there yesterday - bought another $200 worth of cards. The owner Steve gave me a tour of their facility.

They are primarily a mail order card company, not much in the show room. The item I got from ebay was a 2002 Teixeira Bowman Chrome X-Fractor. This card was nice, but the rest of the cards that I "picked" ranged from NM to NM-MNT when I got there. Many of them I would not take or submit, and when they brought them out, many of them were not in top loaders or penny sleeves. I cringed a bit...

They have boxes and boxes and boxes...millions of cards in a warehouse that they pick from to fulfill orders. Not a bad estabilishment...they do a lot of volume.

Mileage may vary with these types of companies, personally I like to see the cards first before I buy. The only reason I drove down there was for a rare 2002 Studio Private Signing Teixeira that they said they had. Luckily they did have it and I was pleasently thrilled. Their inventory was accurate online...there was only 1 card that they didn't have in the 40 additional that I purchased.

    Hope this helps.

I will probably submit the card either way....but a close up in hand inspection of the card when it arrives, determines whether or not I buy the other one they have. Thanks for the imput everyone.

I've purchased a fair amount of non-scanned cards from sellers like Burbank, and I've had a decent amount of 10s pop for me. I usually buy 3-6 cards each (if available) and sub the best ones. That's how I chase my Ripken 10s for my Basic Set. It's hit and miss.

I think I did once and it was not as advertised and another time I bought a 53 Bowman Mantle with the picture and I did not get the one shown so I sent it back to that lying sack of SH*T

I do the same with my Pujols, Favre, Rodgers (among other) set efforts!

Working on my modern registry player sets... I do this often on eBay, but mostly the Beckett Marketplace.

For the past 2 years or so, I've always avoided Burbank Sportscards on eBay... rarely have pictures, stock a lot when they do, and I didn't like their prices compared to others.

They have a TON of cards though, and I finally broked down recently and ordered a big stash (big for me & my normal orders that is) from them on the Beckett Marketplace.

Received the cards on Monday... Purchased 111 cards from them... Paid $119.25... every card advertised as NM-MT

When I buy like this, I know it's a gamble... especially considering in such a case, gradeable to me means "PSA 10 Worthy"

Of those 111 cards, I pulled exactly 2 cards for my next sub... yes, 2!

In general, people put NM-MT to mean NM-MT or better... so when I review the cards for grade worthy... I'd consider NM-MT to mean "PSA 8 Worthy or Better"

Given this order, worn corners, bent corners, surface scratching & poor centering... I'd be hard pressed to say that even 50% of the order was actually NM-MT. I had 7 cards in my maybe pile, which is my probably PSA 9 card pile that I'll review again to see if an outside-shot-at-at-10 chance submission is worth it. So, basically, 102 of the 111 cards were NM-MT or worse... and I can say with fairly good confidence that the majority of those 102 fall into the "worse" category.

Long story... short: I avoided them because I feared what they'd deliver as a product, I finally took a chance... my fears were justifed, and I learned a $119.25 lesson... I WILL NEVER BUY FROM BURBANK AGAIN!

  • Done it one time but had no intention of getting it graded. To me it was a gamble, when bidding if I would recieve the card.

I have some that I've picked up where the picture was lousy (so bad you couldn't see if there are defects) and yet I planned (and still plan) on getting them graded, but all of them are very tough issues where even a PSA 1 is acceptable - e.g., Topps Venezuelan HOFers.

I will let you all know my opinion of the card when I get it in hand.....but like I said, I'll probably submit it anyway. Grading is really new for me, so my expectations are not that high anyway, and I'll be happy with whatever it grades out at. I would probably just buy a graded one if I could find one....but I'll keep looking.

This reminds me of the days before ebay - and I bought cards from SCD.

It was pretty much buying blind - even if there was a pic - it was worthless.

Stuff I bought in the late 80s - that they graded NMMT - by our standards today? EXMT at best.

That's why buying PSA cards got popular - it took some of the guess work out of it.

Recieved the card yesterday....Very Nice. Its a 9 all day or better IMO. Went ahead and snagged the other one they had listed. Hopefully it comes just as nice. Both will be headed to PSA once I have the other one.
