What caused the toning on this Morgan?

It's a little out of focus, because I had to tilt the coin toward the light to show
the toning the best.

I am pretty sure I know the answer and will post shortly.

It's an ole "junker" coin I've had for a long time.
Not really even worth putting in my junk box of coins, not worthy of a flip to store it in.
I had it laying on a tray in a cabinet.

My wife had a few ebay bucks to spend and bought the item shown below.
Being a little OCD, I stacked it neatly on top of the Morgan about six months ago.
Today, while looking for my loupe, I picked up the copper piece to check it out for
some reason and saw the Morgan underneath it.
I noticed something funny and held it under the light.
The reverse is still white, so I put the copper piece on top of the reverse and
will check it in about 6 months.
