Need some help on getting a few auto's authenticated.....

I have a handful of cards that I want to get the auto's authenticated. I see there is a special this month on blue flips.

My question is do you pay the $15 plus the fee per athlete? If anyone can tell me how to do this that would be great. A few months back I checked the fees and I see Michael Jordan is $100.

Here are the cards I wanted to send in. The Jordan is the only one I don't know if it is real as I got it in middle school through a friend of mine's mother who worked for the Orlando Magic.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • Yeah I don't think the Jordan is good either. Navarro is pretty good with early period sigs (You said in middle school) he might be able to chime in....

    It was 1990 or 1991.

This was taken ringside in Orlando, FL at Universal for the TNA taping and took it just a few minutes after I met Flair backstage. I was walking out of the men's room when he was walking in and then caught him about 10 minutes later in the hall way.

You do not have to pay anything extra ... it's $15.00 to have the auto authenticated and slabbed. They do not authenticate the card itself, so if the auto is on an authentic card, reproduction or fake card they will treat it all the same, UNLIKE the red flip.

In addition, the value cannot be any higher than $250.00. Not sure if the Jordan would be allowed.

Thanks. I will call them this week and see if he qualifies.

  • If you believe his insurance value is $249 you should be fine, and then you can always call and raise it. (I haven't done this, I've seen it posted at least 10 times though).

Sean ... that is no longer as EZ to do as it used to be. We (Raiderguy subbed for us) recently sent in about 100 autos and used an insurance number low enough to qualify for the sub. However, PSA/DNA kicked back some of the cards, stating that IN THEIR OPINION the value of the auto was in excess of the maximum stated in the special.

I just checked the SMR price guide and a 3x5 was listed at $150 and an 8x10 was listed at $300 so maybe they would value a cheap card at $250 or below.

I will let you guys know once I speak to PSA.

you could always post the Jordan on ebay and run a PSA/DNA quick opinion on the auto - if it comes back ok you can apply the fee of the Quick Opinion to the grading fee.

Sean, I gave David my opinion in April 2011, and it's still the same. I'll just cut and paste.

"Looks to be a nice, vintage, 1988-1990 authentic signature to me.

    Mike"

I'm ready to see it go through PSA/DNA to see if they concur with my opinion or not. David, Jordan is not one that they typically let slide through on their special pricing, at least on my orders. Almost every time I send one in, they won't do it for the "special" price. Your mileage may vary though. You might have to send it in on the $30 red flip regular pricing for cards valued up to $500.00 as your most economical option.

Good luck!! I hope it comes back authentic for you.

    Thanks Mike for the response.

I remember you and a few others chiming in back when I first posted it that you thought it was good.

I just want to see it in a holder so I can put it up on the wall.

I spoke to a person just a moment ago in customer service and they said I could indeed submit the Jordan under the special becuase the 3x5 SMR value is $150.

I am going to get a sub out in the mail this weekend and will let you guys know how it goes once I get the results.

I put these items and a few other auto's along with 38 other cards in the mail today. I have a few very cool cards in the sub, some cards I would like to move if others need them and then some cards hoping to make it into my sets

Mike it is indeed a 1990 Hoops card and that was the year it was signed.

I am hopeful this baby comes back real as it is signed to me.
