Need some help in seeing if a set is cataloged

Good afternoon all,

I was at a flea market this morning and happened across this book for sale.

It has a publishing date of 1989 by Professional Ink, Inc. There's nothing special about the content, as it was geared towards kids. The interesting thing is that there are little write-ups about each member of the Hall of Fame as of the publishing, along with areas in which to place the enclosed stickers. That is what got my attention. There are four sheets of stickers of all the Hall of Fame players, managers, and executives. The set is numbered from 1-100. I have never seen these cataloged in either the Beckett Alamanac or the SCD Standard Catalog.

The outside cover has some wear, but the stickers are more or less in pristine condition. As carefully as I could, I separated each sheet from the binding and here they are:

I searched the Beckett Almanac, SCD Standard Catalog, and the PSA Population Report and can't see that this set cataloged anywhere. I doubt that there would be any amazing value attached to either the individual cards or sets, but being a PSA collector and someone who enjoys a challenge, I thought it would be fun to hand cut these stickers and send them in for grading. That's probably not going to happen until at the very least these are cataloged in one of the two major comprehensive price guides.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of these? Are these cataloged and does anyone know of any graded examples? Being something from the 80's, I don't think I happened upon a rare find. A quick search on Amazon found several used copies of the book available too. The cut on these only goes through the top sticker part and the backs are blank, so cutting these by hand will probably be kind of tough, but again, I like a challenge.

Any insight anyone can provide on these is appreciated.

Thanks!

Todd

Todd, I added that set to the Standard Catalog data base 7-9 years ago, but can't confirm whether or not iut was ever published in the book. It may have made it into one or two editions, then been dropped to make room for newer shiny stuff. I believe the book/set was/should have been priced at about $15.
  • Thanks Bob. I always appreciate the unique perspective you bring to the board here.
