Ebay question regarding overseas bidders

So I'm selling an item and my auction clearly states U.S. bidders only. I've been an Ebay member for a very long time but have just recently started selling items. Well the winning bidder is a woman from Australia. This will more than double the shipping costs. I sent her an email stating that I would like to cancel the transaction. What do you do when a buyer doesn't follow the rules of the auction. I don't want to create a problem but for crying out loud just follow the rules so it doesn't cost me a fortune to send your crap halfway across the world. I'm new at selling so what should I do?

On Ebay go to your account tab.
    Select site preferences
    Select shipping preferences
go to - Exclude shipping locations from your listings
Click on edit and make sure you block areas you do not want to ship to.

I've lived all over the world and have continued to buy on ebay. If there is an item I want and the seller put US only; I email them and ask them to see what postage is for where I am and I that I am willing to pay for the postage. I have NEVER had a problem. If the buyer is willing to pay for the postage, it's not costing you anything.

I'd PM her, tell her that you do not sell/ship outside of America
and do a second chance offer to the under bidder. If you or he
does not like that, re list it. If she is nice she will help you get your fees
back, if not it may cost you a neg.

    Do what Jim said too.

    Good for you.

    Thanks for the help!
  • Having dealt with Australians quite a bit on ebay, I'd just ask for the proper postage and ship it. I've not had any trouble with the folks down under in a single instance.

This happened to me a long time ago, you can prevent it by doing what jimrad said. When it did happen, the eBay rep told me that if your auction says "Ships to: United States" and not Worldwide, you are not obligated to ship it abroad and you are shielded from negatives as a result. I don't know if eBay would actually remove a negative given for this, but this is what I was told at the time.
