Some older poured Engelhard bars were sold in the space of a few minutes on Ebay tonight. The odd sized 4 ounce and 7 ounce bars don't show up often.
4 ounce (2-3 appear per year) $516 ($129 per ounce)
7 ounce (6-8 appear per year) $822 ($117 per ounce)
3 ounce (commonly available) $290 and $292 ($97 per ounce)
5 ounce (commonly available) $290 and $324 ($58 and $64 per ounce)
Considering how scarce they are I thought the 4 ounce bar would sell for more. 7 ounce bars have cooled off a bit since the $1,300+ bid on one a few months back.

<< <i>Are 5 ouncers heating up across the board or is it just those two specific styles? >>
I believe the 3 oz and 5 oz bars sold last night drew more bidder attention because of the scarce 4 oz and 7 oz bars.
5 oz bars are probably not heating up across the board. Most people are satisfied by one example and that can be a later poured bar (P serial prefix) or stamped (C serial prefix) bar. I view those later bars just as bullion.
The earlier and scarcer poured 5 oz bars are bid up by those who want to collect Engelhard bars like a type set.
This bar with the 5 T. OZ at the top IMO sold high since this type shows up on ebay every now and again.
This bar with the Engelhard logo topmost IMO is the second most early type of 5 oz bar. It sold about where it should have since they are not offered on ebay very often. Only the similar type (found at About.Ag) with no "+" sign after the "999" is earlier.

How long before someone starts certifying the Authenticity and Grade of collectible silver bars?
