Discussion: Where to buy Modern Raw when Shows aren't an option

As i try to build up my collections, picking up slabs is getting more difficult due to availability and/or pricing just too high due to artificial POP influence.
Meaning that i dont care if its a "Pop 3", its a "Pop 3" because nobody cares, not because its scarce.

So, that lead me to take a look at raws on eBay. Theres not a bad selection on there, but with S&H it can add up pretty quickly, plus the poor scanning skills of most sellers could lead to a lot of returns due to over-self grading

Then on the other end of the spectrum, there is Sportlots. No scans and cheap S&H. a con is that the shipping methods of many there are PWEers. What i like about the idea of using them is that i can pick up quantity of the same card, upping my chances of getting a nice submittable copy

I am not a fan of COMC because of they're outrageous S&H fees

Does anyone have any other pointers? Places to check?

I go to sportslots and buy out their inventory on cards. I recently bought 18 1999 Fleer Ultra LaRoi Glover RC for a set I was working on. I submitted 2 to PSA and got 10s on both. I paid .18 a card. Sold one card. I tend to do that a lot, sometimes it is hit and miss, but I generally have good luck. The other option is to buy unopened and rip.

  • Sportslots Eric! It's you best option and hope you find a gem in the lot.
  • You can choose premium shipping with sportlots, those are bubble mailer sent.

Another option is checkoutmycards.com, which shows the front and back of each card. Another advantage here is all cards are on site, so you can buy from multiple dealers and pay a lower shipping price then elsewhere.

Last on the list is Beckett. Like sportlots, no photo, and shipping is higher then ebay on average, but like all sites, each listing is different and there are diamonds in the rough.

  • actually had some success at COMC. Theres a dealer on there that has PSA 10s at a decent price, and accepts 50% off offers. also hit up some raw stuff.
