Bust Quarter Rarity Ratings and my Pictorial Census Promotion!

As we speak, Dr. Glenn Peterson is gathering information for the latest bust quarter census which will be updated in the next JRCS Journal. Both Glenn and I are aware of new additions (examples) throughout the series and are eager to compile your information for your benefit-the more contributors, the better the accuracy.

I would like to take this opportunity (on this forum) to take this effort a step further. As many of you know, a bust quarter photo census is still in progress for the R-4 and higher die marriages along with the addition of including the top 25 or more examples for the more common die marriages. This work has been in progress for over 15 years! With the inception of eBay, digital photography and better photo listings in auctions, we see more examples and better quality coming to light.

If you have photographed your collection, or had others do so, I would like to invite you to participate to the largest bust quarter Photo census ever developed. This census will be used to publish (in the future! No date is being set-yes, we learned a thing or two about that!) a 3 volume hardbound set of books especially designed for those who have an interest in Bust quarters. If you have do have an interest please email me at Roryrea@sbcglobal.net for further directions.

As always, I would need your written permission to do so. If you have had your collection photographed by individuals who photograph for a profession I would be more than happy to give proper photo credits in their name next to the listing(s). I can’t thank you all enough to those who have contributed to our latest book. So many have written to express their thanks for including their name in our book, we think it was the honorable thing to do, and as we look back I think you’ll agree it was definitely worth it.

As an introductory offer, I would be willing to offer a coupon voucher to those who contribute to my photo census work. Those who contribute, will receive a dollar amount coupon/voucher from me in the amount of $5-$25 (depending on your submitted offerings-and at my discretion ) off your next purchase of our latest Bust quarter book “Early Quarter Dollars of The United States Mint” by Rory R. Rea, Dr. Glenn Peterson, Bradley S. Karoleff and John J. Kovach Jr. Please contact either Brad Karoleff at Bkaroleff@yahoo.com or myself to make a purchase.

I will allow a voucher to be transferred to another individual if you have already purchased a book. This offer is for a limited time or until my vouchers last! And, just in case this gets to be too much, at my discretion, I reserve the right to end this offer at any time.

Not sure if my low grade/low rarity quarters are worthy and I know my pictures are not pictorial census worthy but sounds like a great project and I look forward to the results. I did send my results in to the JRCS bust quarter census.

Rory was great to deal with in the process of photographing some of my quarters for the book/census.
This was prior to my photographic equipment and ability to take excellent coin pics.

That said, and not to attempt to highjack this thread, but the Rory et al. inspiration of making a pictorial
census of Bust Quarters has given me ideas to do the same with Bust Dimes! (In the future)
  • Stone, I think its an excellent idea to start developing a standard reference database for as much of our early federal coins as we can-no matter the series. Although I started taking pics about 19-20 years ago of my quarter collection (film) it really was Jim Koenings who got together with the idea to go mainstream. We later included Aram Haroutunian to the project and we went as far as we could go which only lasted a couple of years at most due to the high cost of film developing and my inability to know what I was doing! Lighting, lighting, lighting. As the years moved on I continued and developed a better way, but it cost a pretty penny. Once digital cameras came into play it was easier and much less inexpensive! And the rest is history!

Now, we have more professionals and collectors capable of photographing with excellent results. Now is the time, my friend, good luck with your project.

To those who already submitted their photos of bust quarters, I thank you!
