Market Acceptable Seated Half?

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 9,318 ✭✭✭✭✭

What do you guys think of these surfaces?

There's plenty of mint luster & it has "super slider" AU58 details in my opinion.
Has it been dipped, then re-toned and those are circulation scuffs, not hairlines?
It's been in my dansco album for about 6 years. It's been complete for a couple years now but lately I have taken
a more critical eye to some of the pieces I put in there. Many of them do not match and a couple have problems I thought
I could live with then, but bother me now. Like "almost original" surfaces.

This one isn't so obvious to me so I'd appreciate your opinions.

If your asking for opinions on whether it would grade I am going to vote no chance but that doesn't mean it's a bad coin but it looks cleaned & retoned, which matches what you said as far as a dipping etc

I am more hopefull. I think the picture is not doing it justice.

Yes it has been cleaned but I think there just might still be some eye appeal there.

I'd say "genuine, cleaned." Acceptable to many collectors but not to me.

Sure it's been dipped. But I'll bet it grades, no problem. It's not my favorite look but I could live with it.

You're right on the eye appeal, it's a gorgeous coin at a glance. The luster is very strong still.
The surfaces still bother me even though they are not blatantly messed with.

I think the details are closer to what PCGS calls AU53. I'm not sure, but there may be something wrong with the luster on the obverse. I feel it's 50/50 this would get a Genuine for Altered Surfaces. Without having it in hand, I can't be sure, though. Put that coin under a bright lamp and rotate it, and see if anything funny jumps out at you. So tough to judge a coin like this from photos.
