After 5+ years finally tied for 1st on registry!

After 5+ years of searching the world for cards that are just not graded out there I have finally pulled to a tie with the guy who has been #1 on the registry since the beginning of time.

Although I know he has probably been sitting on a few cards it's still cool to be tied for #1 after all these years if even for one day.

The set I'm talking about is the 1979 Topps Hockey set. The reason this set is so hard to find in great condition is that there's only 1 card that is worth anything and thats the Gretzky and because that's the only card anyone ever wants people just toss the other cards in boxes and forget about them.

Thanks for listening.

Mike

P.S. I better get this thing posted before he puts up 1 card and makes me look really stupid.

    Congratulations Mike.
You thought it was tough to get to #1.

  • These cards are off centered, soft stock, lots of snow, poor registry pretty much all terrible things that can be wrong with cards.

    Great job Mike!image

I am trying to accomplish exactly the same thing with the Harmon Killebrew Master Set. My Rookie came back "altered" so I have been closing the gap with "oddball" items and actually climbed into second place by getting three cards added to the set.

I have one more submission and am hoping it can get me into first place (at least temporarily), but until I get a high grade rookie it looks tough.

Sure is a lot of fun despite PSA having seemingly tightened their standards to a ridiculous level.

Good luck to you. It's good to be #1!!!

  • Just think......Just one more $2600 box and I can be #1 on a registry that only a few people care about. I would rather submit my way to the top from cards I find among small finds then buy my way to the top.

My new Star Trek set will be all from unopened packs and raws that I submit myself.

  • If I could find a case of 79T hockey for $2600 I'd buy 10. If I could find a case of 1976 Star Trek for $2600 I'd buy 2. Know of anyone with either?image

    Congratulations Mike.

I looked at your set - any plans to put scans up?
    Mike
  • I should put up scans. I hate nothing more then when someone hides their cards. I also enjoy looking at others cards whether I collect their years or not.

Never actually thought about it until now. Great idea maybe before the end of the year. Now that I started the Star Trek set I will have more to offer the registry.
