FSHO!! 2005 Gold Proof Deluxe Sovereign Set - 4 Coins - All PCGS PR69DCAM

This set was purchased directly by me from the British Royal Mint back in 2005. The set is one of only 250 issued as a 'Deluxe' Set - the BRM sent the coins directly to PCGS to be graded and slabbed in special holders with both the Union Jack and the official crest of the BRM.

The 2005 Sovereign Set features a single year reverse design, with a total release of 2,161 sets, out of which only 250 were sent directly to PCGS for grading and certification in the specially designed holders. The coins come in a very sturdy (and handsome) mahogany case...which could be used for other coins if desired.

The set consists of a Five Pound coin (39.94g), a Double-Sovereign (15.97g), a Sovereign (7.98g) and a Half-Sovereign (3.99g), which, at 22karat gold, totals 1.85 troy ounces of GOLD.

There are 2 coins that are PCGS top-population, while one coin has 2 graded higher and the other has 3 graded higher. The PCGS cert numbers are - 73241979, 73241695, 73241850 and 73241249. The complete original packaging and certificate of authenticity are included - the set is just as I received it 7 years ago.

My cost was $3,495 - checking eBay, the regular issue sets (not PCGS certified!) are being offered for over $5,000. I have never seen any of the Deluxe PCGS-Graded sets being offered....but I don't do very much eBaying any more. So, the buyer would be getting the 4 gold proof coins, each in a one-of-a-kind PCGS labeled holder, with a total gold weight of nearly 2 troy ounces, as well as the very nice case and all original documentation. This offer is only being made to forum members.

Pictures will be attached - I don't have a clear shot of the case because I only have a macro lens on my camera - I will have to get a few pics using my wife's camera. I have done several successful deals over the years with forum members, and I have not dealt on eBay for nearly a year - they just cost too much! (I was a power seller w/100% feedback).

I will sell this set to the first offer over $4,000 - should be worth that in bullion value alone very soon. Please PM or email charlesguenther@comcast.net with any questions - more pics, etc.. Or to arrange payment & shipping.

Thanks,
Chuck

  • Wow! Tough crowd here!
OK - you've twisted my arm - I'll make it $3,800.......in a week the melt value could be more than that.

This set should appeal to the gold collectors, the British collectors, the registry set gang, and those who collect rare slabs - only these slabs come with quite the kicker.

I would venture a WAG that the reason you haven't gotten a nibble is because the design for the 2005 is NOT the traditional Pistrucci St George design.
    trozau (troy ounce gold)
  • That very well could be. But they are 22k gold proof coins, just about 1.87 ounces worth, and if you're putting together a pcgs registry set, it is necessary to include the 2005 coins, and these are already in pcgs pr69dcam holders - no need to submit and pay the fees & shipping.

For those that like to collect the plastic (there really are some!), these holders are kind of 'unique' ( there are only 250 sets)....and beside all that, isn't Pistrucci's reverse getting to be a bit redundant after 150+ years??

Also, being that they are in America now, they could be melted down if the buyer doesn't care for the reverse!

I'm just putting the set out there - I'll be happy as a clam when gold is over $2k/oz - doesn't anybody collect British gold?
