Been gone awhile

Been away from the forums for a looooong looong time. Used to be on here a lot but fell out of collecting and sold everything back in 2003 or so. What is hot right now as far as baseball?

  • Question is a little broad... Do you mean packs or product or what lol.

And I didn't know you but welcome back.

as far as any new products what is hot? Anything cool I have missed since I got out of cards in about 2002?

Also do you know if you can go back and look at my old post? Kind of curious to see them. Been reading my old private messages from back in 2001 brings back some memories
  • I don't know how far the search function goes, but I've seen threads necro'd from 2003-2004 - so they probably are there if you knew the titles you could search them.

As for new products, you've got your heritage collectors, modern collectors, vintage collectors - so everyone answer will be different.

I have to say that atm I think 2012 topps will be solid - but they have started doing giveaways every year so it isn't nearly as awesome as the first yet.

THE BST board has changed. Gone for awhile now are the CardGod, Duncangal, Awaltz.....................many others have left.

    BTW: Cubby=Cub Fan
  • Bowman Chrome is a good product. Bryce Harpers cards are hot. Panini has destroyed the hobby. If you have deep pockets, there are some very nice products out there. Cut sigs are very popular right now. The Squirrel "rookie" is the latest hot card in baseball (2012 Topps).

The 2006 Topps Alex Gordon is hot right now.

Okay its not. But Keith Olbermann was paying as much as $7500 for it back in 2006.
I've been picking up a few here and there for around $175 or so.
Think it still could be a good investment, as Alex has turned into a solid player. He just needs to stay heathly.

You sold EVERYTHING? It would be very, very tough for me to part with everything in my collection. Once you have the card collecting bug, I don't think it is possible to ever completely let it go.

I just got so burnt out on it I guess and just getting out of high school I wanted money. I don't remember how much I got but I had quite the collection. Had McGwire, Griffey, A-Rod, Jeter rookies tons of sets, A-Rod autographed patch card only 25 made. etc etc used to set up at shows on weekends. It was basically my income during my middle school and high school days. I really want to get back into it but focus on one area such as vintage or trying to complete a set.

Sad to see a lot of the names I used to see on here no longer around but look forward to the future on here.

    Hi Brandon

    Welcome back!

    Big question - tough answers.

    image

On your old thread responses - go to the SEARCH button on the upper right side - PRESS - and fill it out something the way I just did and see what comes up.

    image

How about some more details on what you used to collect?

If you sold out 9 years ago you probably got the most you were gonna get for your collection so you're probably better off not buying back in. Feel free to hang out and talk cards though.

Edited to add - Here's a link to all your posts ever from recent to oldest.

Agreed. Other then possibly Jeter, the cards you mentioned have dropped in "value"

    why?
  • Well Bryce Harper as well as a butt load of other RC's are hot.

The Ozzie Smith RC for 20K was mind blowing

We as a forum are focused on positive healthy posting for the most part. NO Alt's allowed.

We usually do box breaks about once a month. Sometimes 5K worth, sometimes like the other day was 4 boxes of 1975 Mini's, and before that we sold out a 1977 Topps case of 16 boxes. $1,000 each.

There are a lot of really great people on here.

We have been posting our collections to share with the board.

You might be able to get in on Muggy University, it ends tonight or tomorrow before the Super Bowl.

Presidential Cut Pack com out in 2 weeks or So $1,400 per pack. Each pack has a President cut signature from 48 different President's. Only 250 made. I will post mine when they come in. Nasty!

I'm that's enough for now, welcome back, and good luck starting back in. You should go buy something quick and feed the habit!!! image

Because greedy lawyers and people with more money than brains make decisions like this. Maybe I should of included the NBAPA/NBA

"The NBA is saying goodbye to Topps and Upper Deck and handing the rights to its trading cards over to Panini, a European-based manufacturer.

Topps and Upper Deck will stop producing NBA-licensed basketball cards later this year. The league has awarded its next trading card contract to The Panini Group, a European-based collectible publisher, which will take over production and distribution beginning later this year."

    -------
That decision was down right dumb. How does only allowing one company to produce cards benefit the HOBBY. Not to mention sending more jobs ove seas. Yes I know the cards are printed in the USA but thats about it. Its like the government saying "only Kia's can be produced over the next 4 years". I dont want to get into a political war, but there is no way this decision benefited anyone but a few rich people with power.

Glad you posted that Nick - for some reason - my mac won't let me search?

But, still, I want Brandon to know where it is, so he can search other people also if he wants.

Nice to hear your positive attitude going forward Brandon.

The fact that you're limiting your focus will be very rewarding. Since, IMO, that's the first thing one should do.

Second - I recommend establishing a BUDGET - so important - since I believe many or most collectors tend to go OCD and this does help.

Please don't be a stranger - no question is dumb - no question should go unanswered - for me - sharing is the hallmark of the hobby!

    Good luck!

You have actually picked a good time to get back into cards. Since you were a collector in the 1990s, you will appreciate the fact that you can now buy cards and boxes you may have wanted back then, for a small fraction of the cost. For example, boxes of 1990 Leaf baseball, 1992 Series 2 basketball, 1994 Flair series 2 baseball (just to name a few) are still fun to open but are now much, much cheaper.

Thanks for all the welcome backs. Its insane how much cheaper everything is. I remember I always wanted an unopened box of 1985 topps but they were going for so much back then. I am really considering starting on trying to complete a topps set from the 50's or 60's now that I have more income than I did when I used to collect. Any suggestions? I love 1952 topps set but that seems like it'd be tough.
