If this had been a sports talk topic, it would have possibly gotten pages of replies, with no mention of the existence of the "Sports Talk" forum.

Why is one type of off-topic thread always shot down (BST), while the other type of off-topic thread (Sports Talk) not only tolerated, but way more popular here than identical threads on Sports Talk forum?

I have always been curious about this.

Collectors Universe describes the content/topics for it's various forums--and the "Sports Talk" forum is described as the
"place for sports stats, sports news, sports comments, talk of teams, players and games. Any general sports related topics."

But it seems common to have 1, 2, or more of these "Sports Talk" topic threads on first page of this, the "Cards and Memorabilia" forum--and people welcome them eagerly and respond a lot--but if a "Buy, Sell, Trade" topic is posted--then that poster is wrong, as this is not the correct forum for that.

Why is there a double standard? Off-topic threads don't bother me too much--but it does seem hypocritical to speak out and shoot down one type of misplaced thread, but welcome and participate in the other misplaced threads.

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
