Question re BINs

What's the best buy you ever had on a BIN? Most of them are way overpriced. I recently picked up a well-centered 66 Koufax in PSA 8. It was not a steal (or even close to it), but it was a reasonable price. Just wondering.

A few years ago, someone listed a Rajon Rondo Auto/Jersey for $5, that was a good deal. A few months ago, someone listed a Zdeno Chara Autograph for $6, that was better.

But you're right, by and large BINs are high. I'll admit that sometimes I make mine a little high with BO just so I have wiggle room.

This isn't my best buy, but it's a good one and from recent memory. Both cost me 125.00 in a BIN only being up for an hour or so. The 2001 SP is worth double on it's own. The card on the right only had 543 redemptions out of 1000 and is tough to find. The only 10 on ebay right now is priced at over 250.00.

Sorry for the dirt on the scanner...keep meaning to clean that darn thing!

I noticed that when I run BIN/OBOs that were lower than VCP, I would get offers that were downright insulting ($100 BIN - the offer would be $10-$20). Then when I start the same card at a 99 cent auction, the final auction price winds up higher than the $100 BIN price! Just makes me shake my head and laugh....

I avoid using BINs with best offer because of the low ball offers and the subsuquent emails harassing me to "give my lowest price". When I do respond, I get more harassing emails about how I have an unreasonable lowest price.

  • Gotta agree with you Bobby. I had a signed jersey with psa cert that I listed at 125 or best offer. Kept on getting offers around 50 to 75 dollars. Listed it at .99 auction got $175 for it.

If you keep your eyes open there are tons of great BINs out there. I bought a 1953 PSA 6 Topps Baseball common a couple of years ago for $7 shipped. The VCP on it was almost $20. I've gotten a number of cards from places like Just Collect when they do a sale for really cheap. Sure, most BIN's are overpriced, but not all of them.

I got a raw Griffey Int'l refractor, '98 I think (with the Liberty Bell in the background) for $40. Got it slabbed, came back a 10, sold for $400. That, and my two Ichiro gold refractor rookies I got for $600 and sold for $7000.

    Buy the flip...not the card.
