Reason #318 I prefer PSA over BGS...

BGS employs the legally blind (EEO reasons perhaps)... as graders!
I often look at BGS cards on eBay that I might be able to cross to PSA and improve my sets. Most people can recall the Strasburg X-Fractor 1/1 that BGS graded a 9.5... when it was clearly a 9 at best (centering was not great).
Tonight I found this... if it was 9 that could cross to a 9... would be an upgrade for me...
10 on the Centering Subgrade!!!

It seems they dropped the tough grading act and sold out.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>I am not familiar with their grading standards, but I measure the L/R centering (near the top) at just better than 60/40. I would sure want better centering on that if I was paying "10" money. In addition, there is a friggin diamond cut. >>
Pristine 10
Centering: 50/50 all around on front. 60/40 or better on back.
Gem Mint 9.5
Centering: 50/50 one way, 55/45 the other on front. 65/35 or better on back
Mint 9
Centering: 55/45 both ways on front. 70/30 or better on back
Near Mint/Mint 8
Centering: 60/40 both ways or better on front. 80/20 or better on back

That's exactly what happened, they were sold.
I do still own a couple of BGS cards, but the number is less than ten (and about half of them I have kept simply because they have so little value that selling them isn't worth the hassle). The only one of any significant value is an '84 Fleer Update Puckett RC.

*Clemente basic set: 85.0% complete, 7.89 GPA
<< <i>When I first got back into collecting cards after TPG became part of the equation, I used BGS because of no membership fee, and I often bought BGS graded cards. I have since corrected that issue.

What's the grade on the puckett / do you have a scan?
we would be having the same conversation about psa subs if they rationalized their overall grade like bgs does.
thats not 10 centering but in this example it doesn't make a difference to the overall grade anyways.

It's a BGS 9.5 with three 9.5 subgrades and one 9. I think the 9 is corners. I don't have a scan of the card.

That card is easily one of the toughest cards from the 80s to find centered in a PSA 9 jacket
this was the best that i could find:
WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle

Combat logic with logic, and nonsense with nonsense... but everyone loses when you try to combat one with the other!
With that said... no I haven't, nor have I forgotten about frosted flakes... umm, they're great!
I gave up trying to pick off BGS cards for cross over into PSA. A few years ago, I bought a handful of Pujols rookie cards in BGS 9.5. Only 1 card actually crossed over. The rest were rejected for trimmed edges.
