2 Days.................

About 2 days has gone by since I mentioned that I would be "checking out" for a while. Over those two days I have read countless PM's (which is very thoughtful of everyone) and responses to my threads and such. More importantly, I have seen momentum in regards to how we interact as a board family. Its nice to see the collective group care about what occurs on these boards, and when there is negativity, look to react and respond to the negativity. I don't believe he will mind my sharing a portion of a PM I got from Doug (Dboneesq)yesterday. I read this a couple times, while also being mindful of many things said via PM's as well. I think this sums up like well.

"Fable of the Porcupine

It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions.

After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.
Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their companions in order to receive the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.

The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities.
The moral of the story is:

Just learn to live with the P-ricks in your life"!

-So with that being said, I am a realist and realize that there is no such thing as a perfect board. There will be fighting, there will be general negativity, and of course there will be ALTS, paranoia, and everything else that runs rampant on the boards, but there are also some great collecting friends that I have met on these boards, and more importantly, if the last 2 days is any indication, there are a whole lot more of you that care about this place, than those that don't give a damn! So short of looking like a jack ass and asking the CU to be let back into the fold, I hope that I can slide back into my 4.16 AVG post per day and contribute to making these boards as informative and as fun as they can be.

Matt

I saw you post in a thread and was glad to see it.

Trust me I had my feelings hurt when I joined in 2010 but I said to myself it was not worth letting a few people run me off from here and I am glad I kept posting and said the heck with them.

This place is great to not only learn and share but to follow the card market in real time.

Right now it is the scene in the movie Rudy where Rudy says he is leaving the team, but he comes back after a few talks with his pals. You are running back onto the practice field and get a standing O.

<< <i>And the OSCAR for the dramatic performance of the year goes to........... (some people need to have the spotlight to themselves, it's just cards people, cards....) >>

If you truly feel that way, you should come out from behind the Alternative ID post your thoughts for the entire forum to view. I have no problem at all if you really feel that way, but will say that anyone that knows me, knows that I am passionate about this hobby and very passionate about these boards. My comments on Sunday and again today, were based on only the best intentions for these boards, and by no means was about casting spotlight on myself.

<< <i>Sorry you felt that way about my comment. Less drama, more talking about cards, that's my opinion.

Now, this is no alt user for me, my name is Lee and I've made some purchases to some great members here. If you need more information about me, I can send you a private with my name and phone number. Again, I've got nothing to hide, just thought I could express my opinion.

    Thanks and good luck!! >>

    Hiya Lee.

I can see how this looks like drama to you - and if I had just dropped in - even if just reading for a year - would be a bit incredulous by what appears to be histrionic behavior.

I don't know if I can express this convincingly - many of us spend a lot of time writing on the hobby - I have - at times - spent a few hours researching to give a comprehensive report on something I'm excited about.

And if it gets no play - or is trashed by a hijack? It does pain a bit.

Plus - many of us see each other as a "family" of sorts - and it hurts when the tone of the entire board shifts in the direction of negativity and hubris.

I remember times here on Saturday nite where it was more like the open forum that used to exist - and sometimes it was a laugh a minute. I like that. And some of use may - at times - get a bit sappy about this.

I sure hope you can give a little slack while our forum "resets" and we get back to the fun we expect and enjoy here.

    Matt:

I told you you couldn't leave...

This place, for all of the faults, is one of the first places I check in when I log on. It isn't life and death. It isn't going to change my life. It isn't even going to help make my retirement. It is my little escape. My playground, so to speak. It is somewhere that I can come and share with friends, ignore some idiots and play with others that take themselves far too seriously.

Anyway, glad I was right and glad to see you didn't really "leave."
