All Star Dealers - Discovery Channel

Did anyone happen to catch the premiere last week? Won't be able to catch up on all the shows I miss while on the road for a while, so I was wondering what the feedback is on the show. I saw a couple reviews on the net and it didn't sound so promising.

The BBCE needs to pitch a show... following you and Steve on the road buying.

We're definitely not made for TV. These shows need a personality that can ham it up for the cameras. I get nervous doing radio interviews. Besides, who wants to watch us load junk cases onto a truck?
While the guys on Pawn Stars like to go back and forth haggling, we come out firing with our offers. I don't want to insult someone with a low first offer thinking we're going to start from there. I think this looks awful on TV.
The camera adds 10 pounds...I can't afford that.
Of course, we have no idea how much these reality show guys get paid to be on TV.

What, you guys don't wheel and deal like Rick and company, you are leaving money on the table then.
There seemed to be little passion about the items and their history - it seemed to be about the money - which is OK - but lacked "feel" for me. I didn't care much for Richie Russek.
I recollect some negative reviews about the customer service at GF over at net54.
I agree - the show lacks the personal flare of Pawn Stars which is a cable mega-hit!
Also, I know nothing about jersey authentication - but on a few items - I felt they were reaching on their authentication. For one - they found a 1966 Mets Jersey #30 and IMO worked hard to make themselves believe it was worn by Nolan Ryan in his rookie year - my wife wasn't convinced totally - the slight flaw in a jersey letter - they said matched his picture - I didn't see it.
But - perhaps they were right?
Batboys used to repair bats with nails.
People "paint" over autographs on baseballs (I thought they just erased them somehow).

Did you happen to see the auction show right before the All Star Dealers last night???? They had a pallet of junk cards that sold for $700 I think. For 100,000 cards even if its junk it might be worth the shot!!!
What is most troubling is how Richie Russek comes off on TV as a money hungry dealer. Of course, while I absolutely enjoy what I do, it also is about the money, but I would feel very uncomfortable discussing it with relative strangers, potential clients, and our existing clientele. It seems like he spent too much time bragging about the potential commissions they would be making, all while throwing out his own sort of "cha-ching, yes! Money!" catch phrase. Tell me how this TV series isn't going to come back and somehow bite them on the ass, exposing their seemingly lack of professionalism.
Like all other collectibles-based shows, the dealer needs to consult an outside expert from time to time. When Grey Flannel was inspecting a Wayne Gretzky game used stick, they brought in John Taube, a noted baseball bat expert and authenticator. Now I may not know what other areas Mr. Taube has expertise in, but I don't ever recall him dabbling in hockey memorabilia. I guess the average viewer is taking their (Grey Flannel's) word for it that Mr. Taube is an expert in this field and has the qualifications to authenticate a hockey stick, but I'm sure other members of this board know this is not the case.
The show "Ball Boys", the ABC show about a card shop in Baltimore debuts this Saturday. I'm hoping it proves to be more watchable than "All Star Dealers."

You and Steve up for it?
"Live everyday, don't throw it away"
This show could be their undoing (hopefully), if only it had more viewers.
I cant belive Spence would get involved with a show like this. Those Jordan shoes were sweet to say
the least.
