I have a USPS Hines Ward Poster - with error. Worth Anything?

Way back in 2006, after the Steelers won the Superbowl in Detroit, the local post offices were selling a bunch of Steeler related items. I was probably the last customer of the day, and the 2 lady clerks (who I was on a friendly basis with) were trying to get me to buy something beside postage, because they had just put out all of this Steeler mdse. Since I didn't think they would let me out the door without making a purchase, I selected a Hines Ward poster - he is in a throwback uni, and I believe that he may have been the Superbowl MVP that year.
Anyway, I stopped in again the very next day, and all of the Steeler stuff was gone! One of the clerks who was there when I bought the poster said "You got a 'goober' last night - all the posters were recalled because of a printing error." I asked what a goober was, and she said that was her term for anything that the USPS screwed up & had to recall. Anyway, the problem turned out to be that Pittsburgh was spelled 'Pittsburg' on the posters, and they were all recalled - but I got one!
I have had it safely stored away since 2006, and was looking thru some stuff the other day when I found it. Is there any chance it has value due to the error, and I suppose rarity, since it had been on sale for about a day total. I don't have plans to part with it any time soon, since Hines (a future Hall of Fame WR) is one of my favorite all time Steelers, and I really like those throw back uniforms.....just curious as to what others may think.
Don't you know that it's worth
every treasure on Earth
to be young at heart?
And as rich as you are,
it's much better by far,
to be young at heart!

  • Well first off there is no way to know that you have the only one. No other post office had them?
And usually the item needs a corrected version to make the error worth something.
  • I never said that I had the only one. Also, since Pittsburgh is spelled with an 'h', I tend to believe the fact that it is an error is obvious.
Just came across it as I was cleaning up & organizing some stuff, and got to wondering if it had any value, so I thought that I would pose the question here.
Like most collectibles, I suppose that it is worth what another person(s) is willing to pay for it.

  • I did misread what you wrote. I see that you said you had one and not the only one. But what else I said is usually true. It is an error but if they never went back and reprinted it with the correct spelling, it really doesn't add much value to yours. Having an error and a corrected version usually would add some value to the error item.
