AGE 4-coin proof set question....

Do any years carry any special premium, or are they all priced about the same? (For sets in original mint packaging.)

  • For many years these sets sold for $999.00. I would think the 1995 set sells for a large premiun considering the fact that it has the silver eagle coin which by itself sell for more than $3,000.00.

SO, I'm guessing then that there are no "key" dates among the 4-coin AGE proof sets, and that none of the years command any premium over any of the other years (with the exception noted above).

in 1995 30,102 of the 5 coin sets were sold (with the ASE) in addition to the four coin set and individual proofs.
Premiums for the proofs sets pretty much boil down to coin mintages. 2008 W proof set would be my first choice as it experienced lower mintage that year. If I recall correctly a blank shortage affected US Mint gold coins in 2008. Remember, priority (by law) has to be given to bullion coins over proof coins when it comes to American Eagles.

The Roman numeral coins usually sell for a small premium. And fresh (ungraded/unpicked) odd coins from sets sell for premiums to those who want to grade them.

1995 definitely sells for a premium, due to the Silver Eagle (these sets sell for around the $6,000 mark). Sometimes these are worthwhile for the owner to get graded. Remember, if you hit the 1995-W jackpot, that silver eagle alone would sell for more than $20,000.

not all 1995 AGE proof sets include the ASE. Two different versions. The 10th Anniversary AGE proof set has the silver eagle proof in it.
