Why is it that a majority of the Doily Holdered Morgans are MS63?
The name is LEE!

Why is it that a majority of the Doily Holdered Morgans are MS63? >>
2 theories that come to mind without much thinking
1. most of the other doilies were valuable enough to consider cracking out/resubmitting
2. the majority of coins they received at that time were morgans
.

I believe by the time the doilies were used the coin market had crashed from the $500 ms65 Morgan days. People were still sending in lots of stuff in hopes of getting 65s and maybe 64s. Also since third party grading was still relatively young, it's hard to imagine that the supply of really good coins was already exhausted and that folks were already resorting to submitting junk/dreck/widgets.
<< <i>I see 6 of them up for sale >>
Yep, and some a those have bin there since Methuselah was a kid.
But don't doily dally iffn ya wanna gitch yersef 1 or 2. Remember RYK hesitated an wen he went to git his coin pffttt it were gone.
I don't get the hype...
<< <i>The actual coins that are in "doilies" are always sooo boring.

this is the hype from my perspective - i am not speaking for others
it is a scarce type in the top TPG companies holder and the insert is very very cool
.
i do agree most of them seem to holder coins that are not special - MOST, not all
.

How is a common date Walker holdered 22 years ago in a doily any more or less boring than the same coin holdered 22 days ago? Keep in mind that there weren't that many of them to start with, many were conservatively graded and cracked out. The intrigue is in the label. It's distinctive and a part of the PCGS history.

95+% of all the coins in TPG holders aren't special and are mostly widgets.

I don't understand what you mean. A common date walker IS just as boring 22 years ago as it is today...that's why I don't get why people get so excited over common date morgans and walkers just because of a faded label.
OK, yes, if you collect pcgs memorabilia then it is cool...but if you collect coins, what's the difference?
I am a younger collector just coming into this, and I don't understand this whole label game that seems to be way overplayed in a COIN collecting community...that's all.

Read my post above yours. 95% of coins are boring, IMO. Some people are attracted to the doily slabs/inserts because of their scarcity and uniqueness. Some amass them without regard to the type of coin contained within, others try to collect by type/series etc. To each their own. Collecting 25 different coins could be quite a challenge. While the hobby is largely about the coin, it isn't exclusively so.
<< <i>What would a Doiley with a gold bean go for?
Put one up on eBay and find out.

The majority of all holdered coins are Morgans in MS63 so I see no reason why doilies would be any different

I don't necessarily agree that that is true. I have a box of 20 of the things and only 5 are 63, 1 is a 62 and the rest are 4s and 5s. A circulated Morgan like an 03-o a 81-cc or 85-cc in a doily would be a true rarity. A key date in a doily would be equally rare.
