2011 Topps Chrome #87 Tony Gonzalez Refractor Rainbow

The newer refractors were discussed the other day so I thought I would share my refractor rainbow set I just completed. For those that don't collect modern cards, a rainbow is a compete set of the various color parrallels of a card. For Topps Chrome its quite a few now, with one added every couple years it seems. The new one this year was Atomic Cystal Refractor. I would have preferred that they added a green refractor.

perhaps only a fellow player collector can appreciate how hard (and rewarding) something like this is. Well done, Mark - congrats!

wow....That is cool. I am doing the exact same thing with the Casey Matthews RCs....I am still needing the Red, and the Atomic. And apparently the sepia (didn't even know about this one). IF anyone has any of these.....LMK.

Edited to add....Yeah, and the superfractor 1/1. (didn't know about this either)
Edited again to add.....Need the Blue one also.....gees ow.
  • Great run!! The Superfractor is hard to come by. A lot of times they will never be pulled and will remain in a pack for years, and may never come out.

ok....update to me Casey Matthews RC rainbow collection. Just picked up the Blue, and the Sepia. Now all I need is the Red. Don't think I will go for the 1/1s.... Nice Gonzales collection.

  • Thanks for your comments guys.

I've been working pretty hard overall on my Gonzo collection this last year and I am up to 82 1/1's now...counting the 2 on the way. I just went a month or more without being able to find any, which seemed strange with the mass of late season products.

It was nice to see Gonzo move into the second all-time receiving yards place this last year, but it has also resulted in a little spike in price in some of his nicer cards. I guess that's a win-loss for me. If he can play another 10+ years Rice is in danger.

Glad to complete the rainbow since I work on so many sets and never seen to actually complete anything...lol. I'll put this down as a mini set. Now if I can find the other two printing plates, an error card or two, and then the earlier superfractors I am missing.

Good luck on your Casey Matthews RC rainbow, Clint. I think he is primed for a great career. It takes a little time with most linebackers and he doesn't have much in supporting cast.

    Clear Skies,

    Very nice.

Although, part of me wants to throw up knowing that they make 14 cards with the same photo.

It's only 12 not counting printing plates...but if you add the regular Topps, then it is 16...or 24 with the printing plates for both cards....or 25 if you want to count the Topps Vault blank back as well. image

Found another one of the printing plates. Now, lets hope I will get to update the thread one more time someday.
