Need some opinions on this Ancient Coin

Hi Everyone,

I'm usually in the U.S. coin forum. A friend of mine found this metal detecting a while back and was wondering if this could be a real ancient coin. He said that after he found it, he added the loop at the top.

I have seen the design before. But the back looks way too smooth to have been struck as a two sided coin.

I am quite sure it's a piece of jewellery emulating an ancient coin design. There also appears to be a maker's mark of some sort on the back, consistent with being a jewellery piece.
