AGREED! Compare it to this "2". (I know, we have NO idea what the back looks like.)
    image

Here's another "older" card also graded a "2". There is a stain on back, but I'd much prefer this condition over the Wagner.
    image

ALTHOUGH PERSONALLY, I'd rather have a card that looks AWESOME with a pinhole in a PSA "1" slab.

It's funny to see a Wagner listed in the same inventory list as something like a 1969 Topps #546 Jim Nash PSA 9 MINT. How would you like to be the poor slab following a $700,000 card.

I personally believe it's got so many creases and cut way of center that it should only be a PSA 1.

Each of the four corners stand at the precipice of the next grading tier.

They don't? Darn, a card is going to come along sometime that I can use my favorite stolen line on.

Everyone that sells a Wagner uses that same friggin' line.

Agreed with all those saying it's overgraded at 2. Looks like a 1 to me as well.

Also, doesn't it seem terribly overpriced at $775k? That looks more like a $150k version of the card.

As a writer I want to kick the person who wrote this square in both shins. Absolutely ridiculous copy.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Rick what do you think is a realistic price for the card here?

As usual, MLI retail pricing is unrealistic.

The good news is that they run a great auction. Just wait. Eventually it will be offered in their auction and we will find out what the market really is.

And my gut feel of the current market for a more presentable "2" would be around $575k-$625k. For this "2" I'd drop that range to $500k +/- $25k.

I think the prices of those 1s might indicate that the 2 from '06 would go for a good deal more today. Especially considering that the nuns' Wagner, which is missing 3 borders completely, has paper loss on about 1/3 of the back and is shellacked, sold for $262,000 with juice.

I also may be in the minority here, but I don't think Memory Lane's current Wagner should be a 1. It looks in Fair condition to me. Well, as far as I can tell from the tiny scan they used for a $775,000 cardimage

    ==> if it were a nice 2, I'd say 600K...an ugly 2, maybe as low as 500K...
the eye appeal is lacking on this one.....

If I was shipping that card, it would be on a commercial flight, delivered in-person.

If I purchased that card, I would fly to it's location to pick it up in-person.

If I submitted this card, I would fly it to Newport Beach in-person.

Really? I'd be fine with my wife bringing in the mail and telling me that Newsweek came, the cable bill, a Lands End catalog, and a half million dollar card. :-)

I agree with what others have said, thats an ugly 2. Either way, that card will sell for more than I paid for my house.

I believe they had this card at $875,000 a month or so ago. Can anyone confirm?

I think the no best offer feature is a great one on a very high priced item. It says the price is firm and that is what you think it should sell for.

The real issue is there are more buyers then sellers for any Wagner card and this is worth big money. If it sells in the 500K plus range that sounds like a tremendous return from just a few years ago.

  • thunderdanthunderdan Posts: 3,036 ✭✭✭
David, I've seen this card before, and it was never at 875K. JP is going to be sitting on this one for a while, either himself or on behalf of a consignor. No way it fetches close to his asking price.

Honestly, I would bet that this card usually changes hands through private transactions. Many hobby heavyweights don't even bother with eBay. It's probably on ML's site, but still I'm pretty sure this kind of card changes hands usually before it ever gets posted online.

    Its a wagner.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I am almost 100% positive there was a Wagner of similar grade from Mile High just a few months ago.

Either way since many of the experts have chimed in and said perhaps 500k to 625k was the range it would seem logical that the current price may not happen.

Showing it though as a Buy It Now I still believe is the right way to go to try and convince buyers there is no wiggle room at your asking price.
