What do you think on this one? It's a recent Cherry and I'll let you know what it is later.

Variety: 1941-S Large S. Not too many of these out there. It's worthy of at least one shot!

Looks FS to me, I know I can be way off but is it early forties?

Wow, you are tough on steps. I don't think that little mark on the 5th step below the 3rd pillar is enough to preclude full steps. I say a definitive YES!

If the weakness just to the RH of Pillar #3 on Step #1 doesn't keep it from Full Steps

And the bridgibg between Pillars #3 & #4 on Steps #3 & #4 doesn't keep it from Full Steps

Then the big hit below Pillar #3 on Step #5 will surely keep it from a Full Step holder at PCGS.

It's the mark between the third and fourth steps under the second pillar that has me doubting. It's real close, I don't think I could say either way without having the coin in hand. I think if I saw that in a PCGS FS holder I'd be a little disappointed.

I give it a 36.2% chance of getting full step. My concern is the deep nick under the 2nd pillar.

Your photo looks like a 1938 with Type 1 steps, those are graded to a different standard than Type 2 steps on 1939 and later nickels.

I disagree, that looks like a reverse of 40 to me. Problem with older holdered PCGS FS Jeffs is that PCGS has tightened up their standards for the FS designation. Coins like this wouldn't get FS today.

NGC is far tougher on the full step designation than PCGS.

i think that according to PCGS' definition in their Grading/Counterfeit Detection Guide the coin DOES NOT meet the requirements for the FS designation. however, that doesn't mean they won't "award" the designation to this coin.

I think the graders for PCGS forgave the little tick on the 5th riser and gave it the FS designation.
