The seller's claim isn't the biggest absurdity I've heard. Numerous fakes often proliferate in those claimed "old collections".

On a normal basis I get calls from the public wanting to sell slabbed coins they claim were graded 40 years ago. These things happen.

Ask him for a picture with a magnet held barely over the "coin", where the coin is sitting flat in an open hand image

....I hope you at least told him he was selling a fake

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

it don't even have a mint mark I can see, besides the reverse is definitely a type one (I couldn't even really see the obverse that well, but i'll take AUandAG word on the obverse). Should someone tell him, or should we just shut it down?

I'm sure that there will be more than one sending him a nice note. I know I did.

Reported and another note sent to seller.

Got a response from yesterday's note to seller and he said he took them to his local dealer. Dealer weighed
them and measured them and said that they were the proper measurements and weights. He did tell the
seller that the reverse is strange with an extra berry and he had concerns about that. Would not make an
    offer to seller.
In the new auction you will see that it differs in wording as if he is trying to be upfront but wants to sell them
    anyway.
    Oh well, still fakes.

I saw fake trade dollars in Bangkok in 1988. Counterfeiting has been going on for a very, very long time.
