My 1953 Dixie Lids Complete Set - Scan Heavy

After getting my last card late last night, I figured I'd post these for all to see.

After the excitement and relief I had with a 24 card set, I can only imagine you guys that have completed the larger vintage sets.

I have a few that need to be graded. I'm really struggling to figure out how to display these for viewing. The tall-boy holders keep them from wrinkling, but are a pain otherwise.

Chad

    Displaying online or at home?

I don't have the space to display all my cards. That said, I display them online using imageevent.com

It's nice to be able to look at them whenever I like and not have to drag hundreds of cards out of the closet.

  • Thanks guys for the kind words.

Rick, I knew it would be tough to complete when I started, but I had no idea how hard it would end up being.

As for displaying them, I guess I don't really want to keep them out all the time, just to find a better way to keep them instead of the PSA boxes they were shipped in if I ever want to look at them.

Finally got the last 4 graded and completed the set in the registry. Only waited 3 years to get those graded lol.

Thanks to Duane for the group sub.

The 1.5s have paper loss on the back and one has a small blue pen mark on it. I would have been better off to peel more paper and remove it.

I can only imagine how hard and desirable a set like that would be with a more star studded checklist (No Mays, Mantle, Robinson, Campy, Snider, Musial, Williams, etc). Amazing that only a hand full of HOFers are included. Wonder player selection came to be? Only 2 Dodgers and Yankees in the set (looks like maybe 2 of each team featured).
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

Sweet! What did the Preacher Roe grade? I was going to comment on the lack of black players on the "Dixie" lids but then I saw Monte! Very nice set.

Roe was a 1.5 as well. Had a 4 already had but this one it fits the set better because it's the same size. I probably have 2/3 of what's graded. Good question on how they came up with the players.

These are so rare because when you got 10, you could send it in for an 8x10. Lots more of the pictures than the lids for that reason.

I have some duplicates I need to move at some point, but not sure the vest way to do it. I have two other Spahn that grade 5. Put them out for a feeler as a BIN a while back hoping to get a big number, but no luck. No sure how to go about pricing them with no real sales.

Thanks for the congrats. Wish I had one. I've got a 1953 and 1956 set about 2/3 done and with a lot of stars graded. Probably about 1/2 a 1957 set. I knock off a few here and there but I don't seem to have the itch to get serious about it right now. I'll just live vicariously through folks here as a lurker again for a while.

    Congratulations Chad.

I like the set - have a bunch of movie star lids with the wax paper still attached - they were never used.

    Thanx for sharing.

Thanks Mike. The Shantz still has it and the grade really surprised me when it was only a 5. I would have peeled it if I would have guessed that would be the grade.
