Worth the rip? 1990 score baseball set case and 1990 bowman wax case

I have a chance to get both of these for $100. I saw psa 10's of the 1990 score Frank Thomas going for over $20.
Anyone think this would be worth going for?
The guy also says he has a 1985 Topps baseball rack case for $200 or so.
Should I skip the junk and go for the 85 rack?
Or just stick to my Catfish collection ?

  • I personally would skip both.

Just because you get a Frank Thomas out of a pack certainly does not mean itll be a psa 10. The odds if anything would be against you. Most likely a 9 or so and if thats the case, youre now stuck with a $2 card that could be found in a 25 cent bin.

As far as the 85 Topps, I would just purchase the key cards which can be had for a few bucks literally. Save yourself the money.
  • Take the 85 Rack, it's about what they go for but if it's sealed, there are always star on top collectors lurking around here that'll pay a premium.

  • $200 for a SEALED 3-box '85 Topps Rack case is a very good deal. Steve sells out QUICKLY at $300 when he can find them

Get the 85 rack if you need to spend the money.

The 1990 cards aren't worth it. Between the base cost of the cases and the grading fees, you're not going to get much of a return, if any.

Sounds like a good deal regardless of what you get in the packs/sets. A case of 1990 Bowman gets around $140 on BBCE alone.

    To the OP...

Is this both 90s cases for $50 each, or $100 EACH?

The 1990 Score Bo Jackson Black and White still sells pretty well in a psa 10 too!

  • He also has a 91 score case. They are 50 each, I don't know what kind of break he will give in bulk if any.

I've broken some 90 bowman cases before. If you can pull the Sosa rookies without the meanacing blue dot print defect to the left of his face you might have a chance of getting your money back fairly easily. If you get one blue dot, most likely the whole case will be that way.

1990 Sosa Bowman rookies in a 10 sell fairly well, 60.00+ I believe (I don't have VCP). There's only a pop of 61, though, last time I checked.

At 50 bucks, you have Griffey, Thomas, and Sosas...you'll probably be able to make your money back on that case.

As far as the 90 Score case...probably not as popular, but I've seen Bernie Williams 10s sell pretty well.

Just my opinion, but not bad prices at all for those cases.

Edited to add: After looking at BBCE's prices, I'd probably jump on the bowman case and let the other Score case go.
