Post Your NASCAR PREVIEW12 Loot and Auto's

So Friday night and Saturday was a big day for Charlotte and NASCAR. Friday night was the induction ceremony for the 3rd class in to the NASCAR HOF. Saturday was the first NASCAR Preview. All the big drivers were there and admission was $10 total. Sixty seven drivers and most of the past legends were there. Here are the autographs I got and thought some others might like to show off theirs as well.

I got these, on last years ticket, Friday night right after the story telling time at the Hall.

Mike I did and it's kind of your fault! After seeing some of your autographed cards and Rube's 1952 autographed set I was hooked. I have been getting NASCAR drivers on key cards and got a 1988 Maxx set all autographed.

As you know you have to be prepared. I did make one mistake that I could kick myself. I missed Buddy Baker. He was there Friday night but I left his 1972 STP home.

Buddy signed one of his 72 STP for me through the mail. You might try him that way. If you need the address let me know and I'll see if I can dig it out. How big is the Maxx set?? That sounds tremendous. There are a couple of deceased in that set aren't there?

There are 100 cards in the 1988 Maxx set and there are some key cards of deceased drivers. I was lucky and saw a set on eBay for about $5 an auto and the whole set was almost autographed back in 2008. I talked to him to find out the back story to make sure they were real. His uncle made cars for the Allison’s and they would hang out at the track and he got the cards signed that way. He asked that I don't break it up and sell it. I sent the 4 Dale Earnhardt’s and 3 Davey Allison’s off to be authenticated by PSA which they all passed. I filled in the set with other NASCAR super stars on the track cards. Each will be displayed in my 365 days of NASCAR cards thread here. One card I did not send off yet is a dual auto on card #49 signed by Dale Earnhardt and Davey Allison.

How were the crowds? I thought about coming to his as it's just a 20 minute drive to the Hall of Fame for me, but I wasn't prepared and I was thinking it would be a mob scene? How long are the waits? Drivers friendly? I'm planning on coming next year.

It was crowded but it wasn’t too crazy. You had to wait in line to get arm bands for the 17 Cup guys. You got one arm band for one of the 17 and then you had to go to the back of the line for another arm band, if you wanted one, till they ran out. I waited Friday night and my first choice was Jimmy Johnson.
I waited about 45 minutes after I got the Johnson arm band and then got back in line for some more arm bands. The line was short and I was able to get a total of 8 different arm bands.

They had 3 autograph stations going with 4 drivers each as well. Those stations would sign for like 2 hours then there would be a 30 minute break and then another group of 4 would come. They had 4 waves at each station. You also had the arm band guys signing at different times throughout the day in another big room. So you had to decide who you wanted and get in line. There were also events at the Hall of Fame so there was a lot of people but plenty of things to do and see. The crazy part was the line for Danica. She was not an arm band driver and she was at the same time as Earnhardt Jr. I got in line while the group before her group was signing and then waited. That was the biggest line I saw all day. I think 50% of the people were in for her.

I was there as well. It was the best NASCAR non-race event I have ever been to. Met a lot of nice fans. The drivers were very friendly. I talked with a guy that works at the NASCAR Hall of Fame who use to work for the Baseball Hall of Fame. He said that fans never get access to the Baseball inductees like the NASCAR fans get with their Hall of Famers. Baseball could learn from NASCAR. I had a lot of fun. Breakfast with Junior Johnson. Meet and great with Darrell Waltrip. Got about 45 autographs
    Here are a few:

    Kyle's Auto is a mess...
    image

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I was recently going through some old Nascar programs from races I had gone to in the late 60's. One particular program had about 10 different autographs. I could make out all of them but one. The program still had the starting line-up sheet with it and I still couldn't decide whose auto it was. Back then fans could go into the pits after the factory drivers went home. A great chance to meet the independents. Most of the independents were really nice people and would rememeber you from race to race. Back then we went to about 16 or 18 races a year and would usually go into the pits after the races.

Edited to add: My apology for mis-reading the title. I wasn't at the 2012 HOF functions and it's only 20 miles from here. At least in the future your autograph will be known. I have no idea who signed the one on my program. It was over 40 years ago and my memory ain't what it used to be.

I'll see if I can dig it out and find the correct program. It's in a box with about 50 programs from the 60's. I used to buy a program at every race I attended. It will have to be photograph as I don't have a scanner.

Great stuff guys, I thought Logan might be there, I was actually saying to my wife that SaturdY morning, that despite not having anyone to go with me, I am pretty sure I would run into Logan whom I see at the National and is really into NASCAR. Her comment, how would you know him? I said, he wears cool shoes!

I am going to be there next year, I have been working on acquiring NASCAR legends auto's on cards for a year now, this would have been a great opportunity to add to my collection.

Most importantly, I would love to meet a couple fellow NASCAR fans!

Jeff was there but you had to wait in line for each wrist band. I got Jimmie first and when I went back Jimmie, Jeff, Dale and Tony were all gone. He was signing at the same time as Jimmie.

Danica looked like she does on TV but she didn't have any tight fitting clothes on. She seemed mad. I guess I would be too if so many people were in line and you knew you were signing for the next hour and a half. One auto per person and no pesonal photo's. There was so many people in line I'm sure she could not get through them all in the time frame. I was about #20 in line.

    Hey Matt,
Thanks for the cool comments on my shoes. I have had a lot of comments on my shoes. One guy told me I was wearing clown shoes and one guy said I was living la vida loca with my shoes. I guess the shoes are my signature at the National. I have folks ask me about them every year and some look at me when I walk up and then look at my feet and say " I see you got your shoes on". Val and I will be at the National this year and I will have my shoes on. I will also wear them next year at the preview in Charlotte.

    Thanks,
    Logan

Great stuff Logan. I want to meet/see Danica in person in a bad way!

It's amazing to think you can get Junior Johnson, David Pearson and Richard Petty autographs with virtual ease, considering these are the pioneers and all-time greats of the sport.

Back in the day, I am referring to the late 60's, Richard Petty was always available to his fans. After the rest of the factory drivers had left the track the fans could go into the pits. Richard Petty was usually still there greeting the fans. The man had just drove a race and was that aware of where his bread was buttered. Buddy Baker was usually still around too. That's what separated Petty from the rest. I was a Ford fan but always respected Petty. If Petty beat you he did it clean, he just flat outran your butt. He was great for the sport.

Kyle Petty tells stories of him and his sisters playing for hours in the infield waiting for their Dad to finish signing autographs. The King would not leave the track until every fan who wanted his autograph got one. He is a class act and was instrumental in making NASCAR what it is today.
