In different, more affluent times, I would have probably competed for this very attractively toned and prooflike 1863 Hesse-Homburg taler, but now I'm happy to simply suggest it to Darkside collectors.


And one more from Greg, this 1832 Bavarian commemorative taler, rather undergraded IMO, depicting Greece on the reverse and struck on the occasion of prince Otto of Bavaria accepting the throne in Modern Greece after its independence war against the Ottomans. A German coin that is very eagerly sought after by Greek collectors.

I picked up a Peruvian 5 pesetas beauty, and a Norman Richard I 1d. I'm branching out into late Dark Age to early (or mid) Middle Age British minors, plus some associated continental pieces. Not sure when I'll end, but at least until Bosworth Field. This has been my dream since I was in HS learning about the so-called Heptarchy and Alfred and Eadgar.

I went after the Peruvian piece because it's nice and I think I will do very well with it if I ever decide to sell it in 20 or 30 years.

Z - I should mention that I'll still be chasing the nicer European silver crown-sized pieces, including the Habsburgs. But, don't worry, because I typically prioritize Austrian downwards. I only chased the Leo II in 65 (HA NYINC) because "it's the 78-S Trade Dollar of talers".
