All these threads on Bust, Seated and Barber coinage has me doing some reminiscing

One of the larger than life figures of my childhood was my great grandfather on my dads side of the family. My grandmother would care for me while my parents worked, my grandfather was still working at that time and my great grandfather shared a double house with my grandmother and grandfather. It worked out perfectly for me to be able to spend a lot of time with him, almost by default. He taught me to pitch and bat a baseball and many other important things a young boy needs to learn. I bring this up because he was also partially responsible for me being interested in coins. I remember vividly him telling me about being paid in small gold coins at the local mill back in the day. He was born in 1893 and died in 1986 at the age of 93 years. I remember him sitting me on his lap and showing me Seated Liberty, Barber and Indian Head coins when I was a child and saying "these were the coins we used when I was young". That blows me away now everytime I think about it. How cool would that have been? Those days were good times that will never be forgotten.

You were fortunate to be able to spend so much time with your great-granddad.
Old coins are cool.
