Are there such a thing as "real" x-mas racks ???

I thought that the BBC Kid said they were real, but later recanted image

No, he says his are real...
    "**THESE ARE THE AUTHENTIC PACKS!"
    "These are the real deal"

His ID is "christmasrackpacksatyahoocom", so he MUST know what he's talking about. image
  • "These packs are known to be put together by a 3rd party back then, so you never know if you're going to pull all gem mint 10's or all psa 5 quallity..."

I know most have been packaged up in the last year or two - but was it ever really determined if these "racks" really were sold in the 60's?

If so, does this seller's "real vs. fake" stuff hold water? No way I'm buying, but found it interesting as I've always thought that none of them go back more than a couple of years.

    edit:

I see one board member remembers them: old thread. Guess they were real (in general); who knows...

If you search ebay you can find the cellophane and header cards used to make these FAKE packs. They are real cards inside, but certainly not random. Buy them like you're buying a lot of 12 EX-MT commons.

Yes, somebody (not Topps) did make these back then, but I would guess the majority of what is seen now have been made recently.

Heard someone say once that the staples are the biggest giveaway about when it was packaged
  • If Topps didn't make them, and they they didn't, I ain't buying them.

You never see feedback from any purchasers saying they found good cards in the middle.

  • So one could make a killing in selling 1960's staples.

I have boughten 5 or 6 of these over the past couple of years. There are legit Xmas packs out there. The one you have shown here IMO is legit. There are several things to look for to determine the legitamcy.

I would say though that 95% of what is out there or on the bay is fake.

Edit: This was IMO not a real one, and I think I lost a few dollars with the grading fees, etc. I might have lost $20 to $40. But it was fun though. I have made a little on some of the others. I'll pull some more up another time.

  • So for $130 and at least $30 in grading fees, you got $60 worth of cards. That proves it. Must have been legit.
