How are the newer yellow lableled holders.

ANACS that is. Has anyone had any experience with the grading standards and consistency with these holders?

Thanks,

JJ

RYK, so are you saying, buy the coin, not the holder?

    BUT

about the best answer/advice you can receive to your inquiry is simply to look a lot of coins in that companies holders, look at auction results/sales prices, then you shall have your answer

a side comment though, the company you mention is known for its low-cost certification and variety attribution fees, quite popular amongst several coin organizations which shall remain

nameless as threads like this can and often times do get a little out of hand

I think ANACS with the yellow label does a pretty good job. However, modern clad coins seem to be over-graded at times (thought better than ICG). Beware of sellers trying to get PCGS prices for high-grade clad coins and PR70 coins.

I dont think the staff at ANACS is in any way inferior to PCGS or NGC. Its all about market perception. My best advice is to look at the coin properly and decide for yourself. Getting a 2nd opinion about from a friend is also not a bad idea.

My suggestion would be to concentrate on the coin not the plastic.

When I'm buying online, it's a bit tough to tell from photos. Of course I will evaluate the coin when I recieve one. Do you even consider them is what I mean.

Its the wrong color, looking at it from an advertising perspective.
Those reds/oranges/yellows are great for marketing fast-food chains
but, it probably only makes the coin buyer, after buying their coin, wanna
go to burgerking and get a whooper, er, another one in this case

  • I really like the old white ANACS holders, I think the grading standards were better then. With both the blue and yellow holder I have seen quite a few coins with weaker grading. I have seen a slight few occasionally with PCGS and a bunch of NGC weakly graded. Just my observation though.

I have bought only four coins in the yellow holders, all from eBay. Two were seated dollars, one was a shield nickel and one was a standing liberty quarter. All graded between EF45 and AU58 and I agreed with the grade on each. I bought these to crack out for my Dansco 7070. These are safe grades since it's pretty easy to tell if they got it right. I got good deals on all probably because of the holder. I doubt I would be buying anything modern or high grade in these holders expecting it to cross to PCGS. Of course they might cross, but I wouldn't expect the cross rate to be high enough to justify the expense.

Bottom line is you can take a chance if you are sure of your grading skills and have a return policy. I think they are fairly accurate on classic coins but have the same issues all TPGs have.

Grades were possibly tighter back then (I stress POSSIBLY, since I've seen some latitude) but they allowed coins with hairlines into the holders with more frequency. I've never had tougher cross-overs than with the old white ANACS, almost exclusively because of hairlines.

I'm a better grader now, and have been fortunate to avoid these problems in the last few years, but I'm always wary!
