1974 GAI graded cello packs

I saw a bunch of 1974 GAI graded cello packs on eBay yesterday for what seemed like reasonable prices.
I remember reading here that it would be advisable to avoid GAI, although earlier graded packs were more reliable. Well, all the packs sold (if you search eBay under 1974 GAI cello, you will see them under completed listings). Was I wise to avoid these?
