Preference for bubble mailers? Also empty boxes

I bought my last 500 off pounds&ounces on ebay but from what I've seen it looks like they lowered the quality of the mailers since I last bought (over a year ago I believe).

Do you guys use brown paper or white poly, and 4x8 or 5x10?

I got 4x8 brown last time but have trouble fitting orders in there if someone has more than a few cards some times.

Just recently purchased a bunch of 5x10 poly's but probably looking for more - just wanted to hear what you guys use before proceeding.

Also...

Due to quantity discount I'd assume 5k ct boxes are going to be the most economical. If anyone knows where you can bulk purchase whatever large boxes end up being the most economical for the amount of cards in them.

Thanks for your input guys!

    For bubble mailers:

I buy mine from Cutting Edge Packaging Products. The sell Eco-Lite envelopes, and the quality is great. I use 000 for single cards (this is 4" x 8"), 00 for graded cards or lots that don't fit in 000, and 5 for magazines. You can usually fit one full team bag of normal-sized cards into a 000 without needing to go to 00. This is their website: Cutting Edge

    For storage boxes:

5000 ct are the most economical, but I tell my customers to be careful buying "super monster boxes" because they can be a huge pain to handle because they get rather heavy. If this is not an issue for you, than yes, this is the cheapest method.

  • Last time I bought some mailers, I picked up the 5X9 bubble envelopes. I paid the same price as the "000" size mailers were selling for.

I like the larger ones better, you can fit more than 1 or 2 graded cards in each bag.

    Purchased them on ebay.

I took a look at your link for Cutting Edge Packaging Products, and it looks like they only have size 00 in stock (unless I cant figure out where the rest are). I took that $21.99 price for 250 size 00 and compared it to RoyalMailers (where I get my mailers), and RoyalMailers had them for $33.99.....but.....

Shipping from Cutting Edge Packaging Products was $16.16 (I think I saw that they charge tax too), and at Royal Mailers it's free, and Royal Mailers gives 10% to CU members (probably anyone that asks actually), so 250 size 00 would cost.......

from Cutting Edge Packaging Products - $38.15 (possibly plus tax)
    from Royal Mailers - $30.59

I am in no way affiliated with Royal Mailers except as a customer, but I wanted the OP to have some options.

I get mine from Royal Mailers. They're a great quality mailer, Free Shipping (and fast), and I think they even give CU members 10% off, but I've never requested it.

My favorite envelope is the "Size #0 Kraft Bubble Mailer" (Inner Size: 6.5"x 9.5"), especially for graded cards. I'm able to fit 2-3 graded cards in there, and then fold the mailer in half to double-protect the cards (I tape the edges too). It gives you a nice clean secure package for cards. They sell for $70.99 for 500 ($0.14/envelope).

If you want less envelope, the "Size #000 Kraft Bubble Mailers" are perfect card-size mailers (Inner Size: 4"x7.5"). They sell for $48.99 for 500 (just under $0.10/envelope).

As for boxes, I prefer the 5000ct boxes. They store/stack nice. They do get heavy, but I'm a big dude so I don't mind tossing them around when I need to. Besides ebay, I'm not sure where else a good place would be to get them.

  • +1 for Royal mailers, only place I get mine as well.

Ive bought 000 size mailers twice from justpoundsandounces and will say they are about the cheapest on ebay. 500 count cases will run you like 35-40 for a case, thats like 7 to 8 cents a mailer. The quality is ok. They are only good to ship up to 3 to 4 regular sized cards (no game used) per envelope in a soft sleeve and top loaders. After that you need to go to 00 size mailers. So like me if you mostly ship a couple of cards at a time, these are great. If you ship a few more that that occasionally then get a few onf the next size up.. Good Luck!!
  • The last time I bought from p&o I got a 500 case at auction shipped for $20, super mailers used them for about a year but I've only got about 10 left.

I grabbed some poly 5x10 but will probably go with royal mailers on some #000's

I have bought from Royal Mailers and have found them to be a lower quality bubble mailer. Very flimsy. I use them for my lower priced items ($3 or less), just to get rid of them. I have found Value Mailers to be a better quality bubble mailer. They are nice and stiff and seem to be better made. I am not affiliated with either company, just a consumer who has purchased from both.

When you say very flimsy, are you talking about the "kraft" paper mailers, or the poly mailers? I find Royal Mailer's "kraft" mailers to be the same nice quality as any of the Office Max/Staples expensive bubble mailers.

EDIT TO ADD: I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I'm just trying to compare notes.

I am talking about the yellowish color "Kraft" mailers.
  • The Poly's I just got are very very flimsy, but I'm under the impression they are tear/puncture resistant- and tbh a thin layer of paper isn't going to help if something crushes it - well protected cards will help.

What Bobby says, I bought mine from Royal Mailers for many years and was satisfied what with Free product shipping ect. Late last year he turned me on to Value Mailers, the product is 100% better quality and it is Free shipping. I use the 0 Size 6X9 for most stuff, it gives me plenty of room for Graded card(S) with the Cardboard layers on each side (Up to about 5-7 Cards) and Raw lots. I also stock several larger size Mailers for my business now and all come from Value Mailers and all are better quality than Royal Mailers by Far !!!

They might have changed vendors. All these companies get their product from outside sources. Some boxes that I have gotten from Value Mailers seem to have different adhesives on them. One box the sticky wasn't as good as the rest. But the general quality of the mailer is better. Granted, I only bought one case from Royal Mailers. But the one case I got, the quality could not compare. I bought from them because they were a little cheaper. After that box, I went back to Value Mailers. They are cheap as well, and offer free shipping.
  • MOrning,

Also for empty boxes (Small), Walmart sells two versions (Flats ready to Fold) about 6X6X6 and 6x10X10 for about .48 cents each and .54 cents each, I grab a stack of 10 each whenever I'm there and always find uses when shipping larger Card orders. Thick Cardboard and good quality.

  • Value Mailers is the best and price right. Great quality. They also sell on ebay and you can sometimes get them cheaper there.

Our family owns a small retail store, so I get tons of boxes there of various sizes. You may be able to check with some local smaller stores and they may simply give you all the boxes you want and you could simply recycle what you didn't use. If you're looking for smaller boxes then stores like gift shops, cigar shops, Hallmark type stores etc; get lots of stock in those size boxes.
