Most recent pick up (Another one)

Sometimes Beckett will come out to local shows and for about $8, they'll grade your raw cards and place a temporary label/sticker with a grade on it. This one was graded an 8.5. I was pretty happy since this is a card that Ive wanted for a while. I did cut it out of the the card saver because I don't plan on submitting it. Anyways, just wanted to share because I was excited about this recent pick up. Now I have a 76 and the 73 image

I wanna work my way towards getting older stuff so I thought Id start out slowly. Btw, I didn't pay to grade it only to immediately open it, a dealer already had it graded and I purchased it.

  • That Hank looks good!

Just be careful as the RCR (Raw Card Review) labels and/or CS1's are easily manipulated to have the card inside swapped out

  • Centering is pretty awesome.

Really?? Not that I think mine was swapped out but your saying that people can swap out cards with this on it? I would think it would be tough to duplicate or remove and stick on to another CS1 if peeled off. One would most likely notice.. no?

Yea, sadly it has happened plenty of times. More so with high dollar cards ... Mantles, Jordans, etc. Yes, it is tough, but the thieves have been known to reseal the bottom/side of the CS1 and not even touch the label at all. Just a heads up. i feel that your Hank is just fine. The centering (which is tough on '73s) is fantastic!

  • Oh crap, I guess be very suspicious about pretty much anyone these days and inspect your cards thoroughly before purchasing.

Always be careful. Always be educated on what you're buying and you'll be fine.

Eric is correct. Be careful with those. I have bought a trimmed card in one of those. I brought it to Beckett gradings attention and they said that should not happen. No kidding.

It could have been a switch out or just bad grading. Since then I have seen some that were switched out, only noticed because I paid more attention since the trimmed card.

    Just my$0.02

I have had terrible luck with BGS raw card review graded cards. I bought four or five and only one came back the same grade from PSA.

Many are a grade to two grades above what PSA would grade them at.

Your card looks good from what I can see and since you are not big into grading just be glad you got a nice card that you are pleased with.

Yeah, if people can tamper with the PSA slabs, then they can tamper with the Beckett Raw Card Review stickers.
  • Thanks for that piece of info guys.

Question - With these raw grades, say If I did want to follow up and send them in. Do they honor the grade?
  • Just picked this one up on Friday. Another one from the 73 set that Ive wanted for some time. I remember seeing both of these cards in Beckett and thinking how neat it would be to own them. Its not as good as the Hank but still a nice card imo.
