For the 1973 Topps BB collectors out there...

Did anyone see the finish to this auction last night? Wow...$500 dollars more than what a PSA 9 sold for in 2010. I know this card doesn't come up in a 9 often...but a $500 increase? Man....

  • I know...the bidding history of the buyer looked a little...off.

one of the toughest cards to acquire from the set in high grade.

inflated numbers typically follow limited supply when competition is involved.

    not unusual.
  • Oh I agree...I'm just trying to complete the set in 8's and up...and the Breeden is still one of the 50 cards I need. From $220 to $716 seemed pretty crazy though. Nice for all the collectors who have that card...raised the value for them too.
  • What looks "off" with the bidder history of the buyer on the Breeden?
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

that's quite a quantum leap. you could have had the card 5 years ago for under 10 bucks. image

for those who already possess the card, there has now been another peak established, but there's always a catch.

would any of the Registry folks want to let their's go in an eBay auction? it would probably sell for less today.

but, a year or two from now with no new additions to the population, then it would be interesting.
  • Seemed like a high amount of bid % with the same seller...and so few overall transactions. I'm not saying anything was wrong...just seemed a little weird. No worries on my end.

A nice second chance offer for the losing bidder might be fun for current holders of a 9

The Breeden finished about where I'd expect.
VCP isn't very helpful in some cases and this is an example. The last Breeden was sold during a down time for 73s. The set is in much higher demand now.

I just can't figure out how this seller gets so many PSA 10s
  • That seller has some crazy high end stuff....I saw his Concepcion 9 went for $220.

The Breeden is a very tough card and that 9 which just sold on the bay is not even sweet looking. I was not happy when I paid $75 bucks for my PSA 8 Breeden a while back because I thought that was a little steep but now I am sure glad I bought it when I did. I am sitting on a few dupe low pop 73's including a PSA 8 Breeden and the very tough Brown Background #131 so I am glad to see the price jump even higher. An 8 will probably bring a very nice price now thanks to this recent auction image

73s were so poorly cut it does not surprise me that 9s go for such a high price.

That's pretty crazy. I paid less than that for a complete mint condition set. Unfortunately the Breeden was one that wasn't centered very well. I just subbed the last chunk of PSA 8+ quality cards from my set but I'm not sure if Breeden was one of them. With this latest submission, it should get me over 80% completed.

I did a VCP calculation for a complete PSA 9 set and it came out to over $35k. This will probably bump it up over $36k.
  • Nice job getting over the 80% hump...it's a really tough, but fun set.
