1986 Panini UK MIke Tyson PSA 10

I won't be making a run at this but this should bring some fireworks for sure!

The is the first one to surface.

There are actually 4 in total with 2 of the English and 2 Italian.

  • It says pop 3 in the title, so could this be new poppage or how is that considered?
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
    He is wrong.

There has not been a new 10 hit for a while. I check the pop reports daily on a few things and this is one of them.

Either way there has yet to be one listed for the masses on EBAY so I would think this gets some decent action for sure.

  • Didn't know if they put the US and UK in the same pop - will be an interesting auction to watch...

    You raise an interesting point.

There have been a few graded for sure that were the UK version that were listed Italian. They do have the pop reports separated at this point and have for a while but it is possible I suppose that one of the two listed under Italian were wrongly labeled.

When I sold my Panini 86 Larry Bird PSA 10 to a collector from the registry he had them verify the cert and they moved all of the Larry Bird stickers from 1985 to 1986.

The 10's have popped up in the past few months and I do believe they had them separated at that point but I can't say for sure.

If you look at the current Pop report it is 2 and 2 and then you must look at the 1985 Italian which is mislabeled and there are no 10's. Two of my PSA 9's say 85 and two say 1986. My submission was the first copies of the Panini stickers they got right and listed under 86 about four or five months ago. These can be found under Multi sport listing.

That side-to-side centering is not 10 worthy IMO.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Here we go.

When a few 10's popped I shook my head and wondered what they looked like. Here are my PSA 9's. That is a razor sharp example but I think the centering is iffy too.

  • The 2nd and 4th are pretty awesome... How many times have you had them reviewed?
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
None. I have a few more to sub. Here are three of them. One has the finger print on it which makes me pretty upset I did that to it. A dealer I respect said it may not ruin the grade but we shall see. I have two others that are PSA 7 at best to sub as well.

I have tried with no luck.

The day I got it from the seller in Cyprus I put it in a card saver. There was something in the card saver and so I pulled the sticker out gently and somehow my finger print got on it. I have handled quite a few with no problem.

I paid $220 for it so I was really annoyed. I tried cleaning it with a soft cloth, a slight amount of water and neither worked. The sticker is razor sharp so I gave up so I don't really ruin it.

I just got a PM with another suggestion I am going to try and see if that works. Thanks for sending me that suggestion.

This should be a fun auction to watch. I'm guessing it's going to go for over $700.

I just looked at it and it has moved up to $305 and there are 37 watchers according to Watchcount.com. Off to a quick start for sure and I do expect higher prices from here. It is going to be tough to gauge what this goes for.

    I've never see Watchcount.com - that's pretty cool!

Tyson has a very broad appeal. I would love to see this card become one of the iconic rookie cards of the 80s.

What do 9's sell for? Either version.

I sold a PSA 9 for around $250 last summer, if I remember right. I think they consistently sell within the $200-$300 range. I know DPeck tracks these more than I do, maybe he can better answer that question for you.

Jeff you sold the first PSA 9 on EBAY and it went for over $400. They have ranged between $305 and $420. There have only been a few sales of PSA cards and one BGS graded version.

The card has cooled off some as raw buyers are no longer willing to pay $150 for an EX card.

With early bids as strong as we're seeing - this card might hit a grand. I wouldn't pay that much, but I'd love to see it happen.

When I started chasing this card looking for a 10 my estimate was at least $1,000. It may get there. I think your initial $700 estimate for sure.

There is not anywhere near the collector base for Tyson that there is for say Jordan or other elite athletes but with a supply of Mint or higher copies being so low, it doesn't take anywhere near the number of interested buyers to keep the price high. You only need a few people to really want this card.

  • If a 9 sells for $300~ then being a pop 2 (or 4 depending how you look at it)

I'd estimate it closer to $1500 just seeing different auctions and different pops from baseball, I don't know how strong Tyson is compared to that lol.

There are 54 watchers now which is a good number for an item like this. Obviously a lot are just tuning in to see the action but that number has been steadily climbing and to get the most for an item on EBAY you need as many eye balls to see it as you can get.

  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
The Tyson just jumped to $670 and now has 60 watchers.

This auction is going to get really interesting. I was one of the people affected when Photobucket went down last year and I had no access to my pictures for about two weeks. They gave me the upgraded service and I can see how many times a photo has been viewed.

The nicest Tyson I posted in this thread has been viewed 608 times in the past five days. The others are in the 370 range which is still a lot.

There is a big appetite for this card in high grade and this one is going to launch from here for sure is my bet.

  • This card could go easily in the $1100 to $1500 range...

$681 now. I've gotta think it's headed for a grand, at this point. No way is the top big going to come out on a card like this with six days to go.

This is great for boxing cards!

Mike did you ever bust the box of Panini you bought?

  • Why, might this be a good time to put it up for auction???

    No I didn't.

It might be. It is hard to tell.

When we were buying them they were not cheap so while an auction could deliver explosive results it might not.

The other big thing to consider is once the seller in Cyprus sells out it will be a while before any boxes will surface.

You can make the case for trying to sell and wanting to hold. I would wait until later in the auction to list if I were you. I would take advantage of the final few hours and then list it if you plan to sell.

Whatever the results are they will impact your listing.

    Greetings, Mike!

In my opinion - you'd be better off opening the box and submitting the Tyson's. People don't know enough about these packs yet to really pay good money for the boxes. You'd probably make more from two pack fresh Tyson rookies than you would off of an unopened box. Just my opinion, though.

I am pleased with the progress. It is not perfect but much better. Thanks to the board member who suggested to first breathe on the card and buff it out with a soft white cloth. That helped but I think the next recommendation he made to actually use spit helped the most. The spit I think worked very nicely!

I can't think of a more appropriate way to clean a Tyson card, except maybe with your some blood...or your teeth.

Just a touch past $700 and there are 87 watchers at this point.

This is going to be fun to watch in the final days as this could either stay close to the current price or explode.

    Time will tell!!!

  • I might as well get in on the action. Bump up the bid for something to do. image

I think it's going to stay calm for now, but it's going to end in a dog fight. I'm betting on a finish between $950 and $1000. The more I think about it - I just don't know if anyone's ready to pay a grand for this card yet. I hope I'm wrong, though.

    Wow just jumped to $910!!

There are 92 watchers currently. This is going ot be very unpredictable as we approach the closing bell. If there are any high priced snipes set to go off this could really launch.

I think I am going to have my perfectly centered one re looked at with this kind of price.
  • I hope I'm right, just so I can be right

    LOL

Me too King. This is obviously one that a lot have on their watch list just to see what it goes for.

That being said I have never seen an auction with 18 bidders that has climbed from the get go not snipe at the end so as others said this could certainly pop some more.

The high bidder has 2 bids logged at the top. That's just begging for someone to run him up.

I don't mind double stacking bids with a few minutes to go but six hours out is risky for sure.

I think on a rare item like this there has to be a few snipes set so it may not matter in the end here.
