1971 Topps 1st series Baseball Rack Pack - comments?

I was purchasing a coin collection from a customer, and as I was leaving I see this rack pack lying in his foyer as I was leaving!
(they were re-arranging stuff in their nice home).

I used to do this full-time, and some comments were made before about the 1st series being replete with rarities, but having centering issues.

I am putting this up on eBay, January 23 at 9PM ET.

they generally sell in the $1,000 range, but will often go unsold. I have purchased a few for as little as $750 on eBay. Assuming it is a legit pack of course

You can currently get these at between $700-$850, depending on condition and which cards are showing.

You may see several listed on Ebay for more, but they have been there for a while. Also, centering is a typical
issue with 1st series 1971 Topps cards, so if you are planning to rip the pack keep your expectations small.

    Good luck

unopened pack experts: Why have I seen 71 racks like these with 3 cells and 1 header, while other racks seem to have 4 cells and no header. are both kinds "real"?
  • I see what you're talking about, didn't know they came like that.

The 4 cell packs are not actually 4 cells. They are 3 cells with a single card used as a header card.

There is some debate about whether or not the packs that used real cards as the header are legitimate.
There is no debate that packs with the yellow header card are authentic, Topps-produced from the factory.

ok cool, assuming the one posted here is authentic, can we have a discussion about what we can look at to try and look for fakes? there are a bunch always on ebay, but i'm so weary of them.
