Wood grained pennies

Could someone explain what constitutes wood graining on pennies? I've been roll mining pennies for a few months and just came accross this term, but cannot see the wood graining. One another forum I was looking at a picture of a '81d penny that people were commenting upon its woodgraining and just could not see it.

I admit that I wear glasses and its late (or early in the morning) but the nuances of woodgraining really escape me. Thanks for the help.

  • Thanks Swampboy. This is why I joined the group. - to learn. Those pics sure showed me what they were talking about. Before I saw those pictures I thought that the woodgrain was really an annoying wear mark on coins
