What is the board's feelings/experience with the big ebay seller....

Great Southern Coins?
They seem to have a lot of high quality(some "overgraded/overestimated") just about every night.
Thanks in advance.

There have been more threads about this eBay seller than any other. This should tell you all you need to know, but if not, I recommend that you find and read these threads.

run and run fast. I avoided a few "good deals" thanks to reading the archives here. do a search and you will be enlightened. (you may need to use IE explorer to get the search to work)

Almost all their stuff is no bueno, but occasionally half-way-decent stuff pops up, or at least it has in the Bust stuff!

The archives here speak volumes. Read before buying.

Yes, I had a brain attack and remembered to check the search/previous posts here right after I posted that question.
Most are from 2009 and latest seems to be late 2010.
Thanks for the more recent opinions/updates.
Seems like this bird still has the same feathers.

For what it's worth the search function seems to work fine on iPad.

Many threads on this topic. Go do a search and you will have enough reading material for at least an hour I think. Slabbed from GSC is fine generally but RAW....NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they start thier auctions at 99c with no reserve and huge pictures. this allows you to bid what you consider it to be worth... i see nothing to run from.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

other than the color lighting they use i agree

they generally have nothing for me but with that much feedback and level of merchandise they sell, customers must be happy

buying from them isn't the problem, being informed of the type of merchandise they offer is

The coin was in the original GSA holder, so I feel comfortable. If raw, I would not have gone for it.

It generally doesn't work if you are using FireFox greater than 3.6 or Google Chrome.

    This.

They use that "glare" lighting technique which glares out the problems and makes every raw coin look better than it is.

So why don't they receive many negatives? GSCs accepts returns. And when someone returns a coin they usually don't leave negative feedback. And the buyers who don't know how to grade raw coins keep the crap they received and are happy and leave positive feedback. GSCs goes by the "throw enough s%#t against the wall and some of it will eventually stick" business model.

Sure, some people get acceptable and even good slabbed coins for their money. But stay away from their raw coins.

But personally I will never do business with a seller who intentionally tries to cheat or mislead buyers.
I collect history in the form of coins.

When searching for coins on eBay for whatever reason, my searches lead to this seller more often than not. That might tell something. He has a lot of coins because he is probably a strong buyer.
Don't expect to find a lunker in the fishing hole, but sometimes there's a need for my customer base, and I might have to buy something on the quick. When the need arises, it matters who I buy from, but it's the coin I'm paying for, which determines whether I do a "catch and release". And it's MY customer who I need to appease.

As for GSC, I'm sure he does fine appeasing his customers.

That's the safe zone of eBay. Rest assured. You might be out shipping, but the seller has no problem with you.
He's selling coins. He's buying them. That's what most of us do with something or other on eBay.

My experience is "buy the coin" and don't fret about the guy who has tons of coins on eBay. My feelings are not relevant in business. I just have to say (as a business person), that if the coin fits your need, buy it and take a chance. After all, there is a return policy and eBay is designed to protect us from angst.

In that regard, it's not that tough a decision with coins. You either want the coin or you don't want the hassle ... It's a tough choice to make on eBay although it is each individual person's choice.
Each coin stands on it's own merit, but be careful how you interpret photos or 'sales pitches'.

First experiences are actually experienced, They're not read, nor talked about prior to being an experience.
Lessons are taught and lessons are learned. Because most guys are straight up with their thinking and "feel" free by sharing their "experiences" , it can save valueable time and money for the rest of us.

There are those who hate slabs and hate this place. It's easy to see why.

So many of us deal in "raw" coins. Some buyers only go by pitches and 'pitchures'. (sp.)
So use the facts and not the feelings when purchasing.

With all due respect proceed with caution. It's a great hobby and there are a lot of nice people and coins in it.
Do not be afraid when there is a return policy. Get someone who knows coins to look at your purchase within hours of it arriving. A second opinion can save a lot of embarassment down the road when it's time to sell or to pass something down to a loved one. The return policy is your friend.

    Love always,
