Philippine experts...

Can you tell me if this was common to engrave coinage from the Philippines from the WWII era? I am assuming that these coins were engraved when the GI's took control of the Island? Thanks for any imput. -Dan

  • Not an expert, but I have seen quite a few phillipine coins and that is the first that I have seen engraved. Seems to have been done by the same person. Nice job also.

Seen lots of trench art with shell casing and the like . Father served in the philippines and brought some home he made
as he was a master sargent machinist in an ordance repair company.

I collect the series but have not seen this kind before, looks like struck not engraved.

That was my thought. Could the pieces be part of a remonetization of sorts, with the GAB standing for Government Accountability Board or some such thing?

  • Could these be just souvenirs, with the serviceman's initials stamped?

They were minted in the US and brought in after our forces retook the islands. So, I'm not sure of any need for official counter stamps.

This is what I was basically believing them to be, souvenirs.
  • Not familiar with that either but found this with a total of 340 made for ANGUILLA.
