I don't know it they would grade it, but I think I can see traces of the D mintmark- a weak D coin?

That's definitely a Strong Reverse (or Die#2 or No D). From the reverse it looks like it would grade in the low-VF range (I'd call it VF-25). Because poor planchet and die quality is expected on this variety, the pock mark under LIBERTY doesn't bother me. However, I would be worried about the scratches, since those look la lot "fresher", as if they happened recently.

If I'm misinterpreting some camera glare and in the hand it looks like those scratches were the result of circulation and decades old, I could see the coin grading, since they are not inconsistent with a coin in the VF range. If they are of a more recent vintage, then I would expect you to get a Genuine holder.

These are coins that should always be sent in, just for the fact of the weak D comment in the thread will vary widely from buyer to buyer should you choose to liquidate this coin. At a minimum it would be good to have this in a Details holder should it not get a problem free grade.

I think the scratches are okay. I'd worry about the indent more than anything.

I think it gennies for the gouges but you need to send it in to unlock the value and clear up the weak D arguement.

It is an interesting coin. I can look at it at any angle under good light and cannot see any hint of a mint mark, but when I took a picture, there did seem to be something there.

Congrats. I think you should thank your lucky stars. Between the rim ding, gouges, and black spots, I would have bet significant $ that would bag. Egg on my face. Having said that, I'd go double or nothing that it would not get the green beanimage

60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!

  • I was going to say that I would give it an F12, and I am usually not as good at grading circulated lincolns
