Would anyone be interested in a group rip in the very near future? Details Inside

1- First thing we would need to decide on is the price - Id like to make this affordable for everyone to participate.

2- Once price is decided, then we can think of what to box to purchase.

3- We all decide on a date and time so we call all rip together.

4 - We start posting/scanning our finds to share with everyone and see what we each got.

Remember, we would need to purchase this ahead of time and keep the box sealed till that date.

Looking for at least 10-15 people +

Heres my vote for Bowman Chrome 2011 (eBay sells them for about $60 free shipping) - Would that be reasonable for most?

Im thinking Saturday February 18th. That means that everyone on here will get 2 paychecks between that time. Some even 3 (depending if you got paid this week)

Please list what you think and lets do this. Could be lots of fun.

  • So you are going to purchase one $60 box of cards for the group rip?? Have you seen how these things usually work?? I wouldn't count on this plan going very far. Most on here like to run everything through Steve at BBCE anyway, and then it's usually boxes from the 70's and early 80's.
  • No, Ive heard about if from DPECK once. Do you think thats too much?

What he is saying is they go much bigger then that. Sometimes $65 per pack.

Look through the thread about the recent rip and you will see what he is talking about.

I never participate in these because I don't feel like blowing a few hundred bucks on a few packs. There are plenty on here who love to and especially the sealed pack collectors.

  • << <i>No, Ive heard about if from DPECK once. Do you think thats too much? >>

No, it's not enough. The latest rip was a CASE of 1977 Topps baseball. That stuff runs about $1,000 a box. If I would do something I would do a mid 90's-early 2000's assorted box rip. Some of those Skybox boxes have some fun inserts that can be worth a few $$. And don't get me wrong. I love the 70's stuff as that's what I grew up on. I just think some modern boxes might be fun as well.
  • I wish I can do those type of rips but that a bit too much for me image

Seems like you might have an idea. Let us know and maybe we can get some others involved and see what we each pull. Year? About how much a box? Whatever info you might be able to find and share would be most helpful.

    Thanks

Based on your history you may want to start a little smaller.
This should be doable for under a buck, and there's free gum for the organizer.

  • I have a small hoard of junk wax - I would be able to give better prices than ebay because we can avoid all fees with paypal gift - I can guarantee all are unsearched/unopened I'd have to tally but I've got 91 stadium club FB, some 86's maybe some 87/89, I have some 82 fleer vending as well.

With past issues I think most would want it run through Steve at BBCE. And I don't think I would want to do a rip of junk wax. Would rather have it be an assortment where you might actually pull something worthwhile.
  • Past issues? I've yet to have a single person that isn't happy on these boards with any items I sell...

I guarantee all my autographs authentic cash back, the same goes with boxes. I run things by multiple people before selling them.

I'm pretty sure I had a smooth deal with you if I'm not mistaken....

    Marc,

While I am not involved in post-1980 material I think you have a potentially fun idea. Let me suggest a bit of an modification that
may make your original idea a bit more enticing to both Steve and potential participants.

Rather than just picking 1 box, why not do the break/rip for several different boxes and/or cases? While individual packs/boxes may
still be individually "cheap" (relative to say the 1977 Topps case break), the overall total would be a bit larger and attractive
to Steve. In addition, it would give participants a chance to get a variety of packs from different boxes instead of just a handful
    from a single box.

As for using sources other than Steve, while I do understand the potential concern about authenticity or honesty we have done rips here
not through Steve that have worked out just fine. Given Sean's track record I doubt anyone would have a problem. There are plenty of
people here who will vouch for him.

So thank you Sean for making the offer to supply some cheaper wax, and for those who expressed concerns I suggest you reconsider his
    offer.

Spot on bking. I think someone is a little too sensitive about their past dealings. I wasn't talking about you Sean. There was stuff that went down before you got here.

I read this and got excited. I thought we were finally going to group break that run of Baseball 1981-1985 wax cases.

    But nevermind!

    Thanks,

Could you do a Bowman or Bowman Chrome run from say 1998-2011?

You realize you quoted me saying "with past issues" as your first words.... You should probably clarify in the post...

I'd be happy to send the material to steve if you organized something with him to check it out

In the past we have done (a couple of times actually) a 1980's pack run that turned out pretty good. It included:

    1981-1989 Donruss
    1981-1989 Fleer
    1980-1989 Topps

It also included Bowman, Sportsflics and Upper Deck. This can be done for less than $50 dollars per lot and included 30 something packs per lot.

Here is one of the old threads:

  • Ok, so it seems there could be possible interest here.

I like the idea that Steve and 70's Collector were implying - to open up various years to make it more interesting.

    Lets start getting some suggestions...

Most people who have been here for more than 5 minutes knew what he was referring to.

You may want to grow a thicker skin and not take everything so personally.

Well why would Steve Hart want to do that?? He runs a business to make money and the only reason he ships the stuff out for these group rips is because we are buying his product. I'm sure he has better things to do than ship out someone else's packs.

Let it go, he was not referring to you. Yes, perhaps someone that is new
might have thought that. It has been explained. Forget it.

    Good for you.

Sean, I immediately knew he was speaking of previous rips and not you, and I am usually the last person to catch on.
As far as Steve checking out the material, he does that now for PSA. Wouldn't hurt to ask if he would for a fee.
