Another photo with the Canon SX-40 - Toned Morgan

I bought this Morgan from Larry Shapiro some time back, it's like a rising sun. I've shown it before, but I found out with some large coins, 3 lamps does make a difference with excess shadows. I actually think my image is pretty close to the Tru-View - see what y'all think. If I had a box of 20, this coin would definitely be in it.

Great photograph. Great coin.

3 Halogen lights
Using a tripod, and the SX-40 is a superzoom with a lot of options. In some respects, it behaves like a DSLR; it can take additional lenses. When I zoom, the coin takes up the entire focus area and then some, but not the entire viewfinder.

<< <i>Oops, forgot to put in the lamp info, 2 gooseneck halogens and one gooseneck with an incandescent bulb. It seems to work OK, but I'm wondering if all three should be the same. >>
Yes don't mix lighting as all 3 should be the same type.
Only criticism is the reverse shot you need to move the light away an inch as your getting light glare at 12 o'clock.
Your pic is far better then the tru-view as I could write checks based on your image all day long!

I might have to buy that camera you used ... any tips on the lens or other options?

I have been wanting a real digital camera for almost a year and your photos convinced me that this camera is quite good
(I do realize that it's the photographer and not the camera that makes a good picture though!)
Fortunately I have Mark Goodmans book, so I will give that another read.

Now any tips on where to buy those gooseneck halogen lamps? are all halgen bulbs created equal?
What kind of incandescent light bulb did you use for the 3rd light?

The gooseneck halogen lamps I managed to get at a Target clearance rack after the fall school rush for about $3 each. They are just basic flexible lamps, believe they are 20W, the incandescent lamp has a 60W bulb in it. I'll probably get another halogen light to keep it consistent, but for now I'll use the other lamp. For the smaller coins and the circulated ones, the 2 halogens are sufficient. The key to nice pictures is patience, it takes quite a few tries to get it where you want it, Goodman's book should be a big help too. Meanhwile, here's another photo of a toner I got around 15 years ago for no premium.
