PSA/DNA quick opinion

I would like to know if anyone has used this service? In your opinion is it reliable for baseball autographs? Thanks.

i used it for a vintage signed nba rc, it didn't pass, then showed up slabbed by PSA by a big seller a couple months later. from others i've everything they've used it for has come back slabbed. i would say it's worth the few bucks it costs just understand it's not a full guarantee, without them having it in hand it's pretty understandable.

I use it periodically. I would say that you will get more false negatives, then false positives, which is a good thing IMO. Keep in mind that even if you do get a "likely genuine" that you might not get a postiive result upon sending the item in for full authentication. That can be pretty aggravating, especially if you have a material amount of $$ into it.

Use it as a tool, along with your own knowledge or research, to make the best educated decision you can on the autograph in question. To me, it's worth the $7.49 (ebay, off ebay is slightly higher) from time to time.

I've used it 6 or 7 times and never had an issue with the item not being authenticated after I sent it in... maybe I've just been lucky - I for sure would be annoyed if I spent good money one something and it turned out to be fake.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I forgot to ask, do they normally take the full 48hrs. or do they sometimes get back to you sooner? Thanks.

I used it once on a very expensive autograph up for auction (won it for over $2k). Quick Opinion came back likely authentic (must have for lots of people as the bidding was driven up to $2k). Sent in the item and it came back no good. Sent to JSA and came back no good. Returned the item. It then appeared back up for auction (different seller). For laughs, I quick opinion'ed it again - likely genuine.

So, helpful at times, but dont put all your eggs in the quick opinion basket.

  • I've never used the service. I've always felt it was too much of a crap shoot. Until they have it in hand it can go either way.

are you asking about the service in general or are you looking at a specific auction (perhaps the board can help you?)?

Thanks for the question. I was asking if anybody knew how long it took, for PSA to render a decision. I actually already got my answer. I submitted my order last night and got a "likely genuine" response this morning. Don't know if I will buy. But at least, I have a little assurance, that it is leaning toward genuine. Thanks again.

  • I've used it many times in the past, but I've stopped due to several "likely genuines" that have come back negative after I sent them in for full authentication. My track record on "likely genuine" QOs has only been around 50%, which is not nearly good enough for me to keep using this service. I've had so many difficulties getting refunds from sellers that I don't buy anything anymore that isn't already PSA or JSA certified.
