Shipping to Canada without tracking - would you do it?

I have a buyer from Canada wanting one of my Mars Attacks cards. I don't ship internationally due to the high cost of a trackable service to International countries. He is claiming that I can ship to Canada for $3. Am I missing something here?

Comments

  • I have had zero problems with buyers in Canada, Thailand, Japan, UK, and Sweden. When I say zero I mean not a single one....

The only out of country place that I seem to have problems to is in Italy.

You can ship first class to Canada for pretty much the same amount you can to the US (I believe slightly higher), but you can't put delivery confirmation on it.

I found that when I started offering international shipping my sales went up over all about 40-50%, quite a few of my bigger items go out of country.

I have shipped cards to Canada with no problems. It is very inexpensive for international first class mail but there is indeed no tracking information at that price level. A shipping cost of $3 for a single graded card is definitely possible with this type of postage option.
  • the problem i have with dc on an international shipments is that there might not be the means to follow the track on the other end, im still waiting for a hong kong track to show up delivered, its been 2 months,,, take a shot but be prepared to eat it in the end even though it turns out to be a good trade,, j

I assume this is a high dollar card--if it is, I wouldn't ship without Express Mail International, which will cost about $30. You can ship it First Class for $3, but there is no tracking, so he can claim he never receives it even if he did.

How many feedback does the buyer have? If he is an experienced buyer, he should know this information. If he is a noob, he might be trying to get you to ship it without tracking so he can scam you.

Depends on the value of the item.

    Good for you.
  • Morning,

I do it all the time on $20-$249 items, Knock on Wood I haven't had to eat an item in at least 100 such transactions, above that I insist that they pay the $30 so I get tracking. If its one of your Mars Attacks above that line of $249 I would absolutely 100% do the $30 so you get tracking and Your covered by Paypal!!

  • I just sent a package to Canada registered mail for around $15. If you do not send cards out in the US without any kind of DC or proof of delivery, why would you do it elsewhere?
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • Don't do it.

    Neil....it is just a PSA 6 valued at $60.
  • Shipping to Canada is Ok. My only problem is for DC you need pay alot more. I ship everything with DC.

I like to have proof of delivery.

  • we only ship to canada via registered mail...

we block all international bidders and then they email asking to get approval to bid....

we currently have over 300 that have been approved...

    otherwise, you will be exposed....

I think the USPS added tracking to Priority Mail International, which is like $12 to Canada. Can someone confirm?

Common sense prevails. Lots of thieves up here in Canada too that abuse the eBay/paypal system. Definitely ship without tracking on a case-by-case basis. A quick look at feedback usually gives you an indication of who you are dealing with.

An alternative is mailing with tracking in a bubble mailer is to put the item in a small box, such as the type PSA sends their cards back to you in. You can get tracking for a package for about $8-10 if I am not mistaken.

Why do buyers expect sellers to take ALL the risk?

Anything shipped without Delivery Confirmation is potentially a FREE item. I have had three buyers whine about the international costs of tracked shipments and ALL THREE declined to send me an international money order as payment. Trust is a two way street. If you don't trust a seller to ship you the item, don't expect the seller to trust you to be honest when receiving an un-tracked item.

Many sellers claim to have few, if any problems sending items untracked. I am glad there are still honest people out there!

Because that is the way "the man" set it up.

Is this a card you have been sitting on for a while with zero interest in it? If this is a card that set builders are looking for and you figure you can sell it within the next few months to someone in the US I would then hold off unless this buyer has a well established buying account on eBay with no feedback stating he has ripped people off.

I personally gave up selling outside of the US unless it is someone I know or have done business with before.

    Yeah, blow of your buyer.

    Good for you.
  • I need to send a pair of shoes to Canada myself, I wonder if a "certificate of mailing" counts for anything as it's only $1.15. Registered mail is an extra $11.50...
  • Ask them to pay for First Class Registered Mail service or no deal. I've had success sending higher ticket items to Canda using this service. It is trackable; latest example:

How much does that cost roughly wallst?
  • ndleondleo Posts: 4,150 ✭✭✭✭✭
Wallst32 - Is that the $11.50 service that the Post Office has? Is the tracking done on-line on the USPS site?
