Comments on this Seated $1

In my early teens, I collected with my dad and brother. Mostly cheap stuff, but we somehow managed to acquire a few more interesting coins. I lost both my dad and brother last year so now I have the coins. Currently I collect Walkers plus an odd coin here or there. I know nothing of this series. So the obvious questions - Is it real? Grade estimate? Worth slabbing? Does it look as though it's been cleaned? My lighting was a bit excessive so the coin may appear a tad more washed out than in hand. I have a nice camera (Nikon DSLR), but no macro lens so photos are always a struggle.

if the coin is authentic and you have sentimental value assigned to the coin just submit it to pcgs and let it reside in a genuine-details holder or get a type set album or a seated dollar album
it has been cleaned and also has some minor damage in a few spots to prevent grading
appears to be real but our parents/grandparents purchased A LOT of counterfeit coins since mass-knowledge in their time was virtually non-existant, especially compared to now
.
I think it has value no slab can improve and provides a cache of meaning or memories no sticker, star or whatever can impart. Good honest coin. Enjoy it, as you have, raw - it seems to have done everything you wanted it to for the last 30some years. What if you missed touching it? It is more of a memory piece perhaps, what with the cleaning and condition, and while I always hold everything by the edges this looks like a coin I'd like to hold if out of its 2x2 or flip. I think a lot of folks 2il miss out what that is like? It was, to me, nice to take a flip, look at the coin and then (if necessary) take it out to examine some feature that needed looking at or understanding. Now, I can see where a younger person might not regularly get to touch some stuff and I miss that. Of course, the "HEAVENS NO, I just dropped a Pr 38 Merc!!!!" with heart racing for the next 22 seconds has become "darn, I think scratched a holder"

<< <i>Authenticity is questionable, in my opinion, although that could just be the coins natural/pmd porosity >>
that was in the back of my mind as well, from 12 down to 6 o'clock on the obverse just puts me ill at ease
